this release is a stand alone in its genre imo
at first listen I didn't like it, much too raw and noisy,
but after a few listenings I heard the beauty of this
record

I never knew that a raw and dark sounding record like this
could be so beautifull

decent to good tracks on it, nothing spectacular imhmfo .
Like he've used the same degrade + crusher plugin on the
whole album.

damn i should consider dl'n it from you Ae.
that's like the 4 time i hear you mention that speedy j
release.
i'm glad that i have the public energy release, tho i wonder
if it's the same industrial sounding like it?
as i can say jochem is one and only with his speedy j guises
incorporating the raw textures of rotterdam.

:))

One of my favourites. Raw but subtle.

A Shocking Hobby is my favorite Speedy J. I hope that you
found comfort from listening to it, I can't imagine what
that would have been like with your city being under attack.
When I listen to Shocking Hobby I visualise New Zealand's
Southern Alps in the South Island as shown in LOTR as I live
in the CBD.

His last album Loudboxer has a cover similar in design to
[]<'s Big Loada with the same kinda pixelated font but is
bascially generic techno and a disappointment. I could'nt
help thinking it was a attempt to fit into the novamute
signature sound which happens to loud bangin' techno. So yea
I think he needs to lift his game.

Well, Loudboxer was Mr. J returning to his roots. It was a
good release, but I would not buy it on CD or even download
it. If you spin vinyl, fricken buy it. I believe that the CD
version is more like a promo for the Vinyl, because there
are 200 locked grooves on the vinyl. Very dirty and harsh
techno, but very well crafted. Loudboxer is very
misunderstood, but its silly the way it was presented as
being an actual Speedy J album.

public energy was the soundtrack of the bombing
days...strange that i told this to speedy j...but his live
set was totally loudboxer thing, even more minimal...
with two yamaha su700, big mixer and not used laptop kaoss
pad and midi controller. but he told me that he's bored with
dance stuff so he's going back to the "adventure" sound as
he call it.

He needs to do another LP like it! Loudboxer didn't hold up
shit to A shocking hobby
