So what do you all think of this kid? I bought his album a
few months ago [Walls Don't Exist] and it is a damn damn
damn fine album. Instrumental hiphop of the highest order,
but you never see him mentioned anywhere.

Anyway if you don't know now you know, so go and check him
out.

He is called Science Fiction...his album is called walls
Don't Exist. What I menat by music not geeky is that I
didn't want a load of Asimov lovers jumping up in this peice
complaining they thought it was gonna be something about
some fucking gay space adventure or something.

aha! so you meant "this thread is about music, not geeky
stuff!"

the square bracket-thingies are for altering quotes, btw..
like when you take out lines of a quote to get the important
stuff.. for instance: "there are two important things to
remember when welding a door shut. Nr. 1 is to use a proper
mask. this is important because [...]. Nr. 2 is to use a
welding machine"

see? I cut out the nonsense with three dots in square
brackets!

WORSHIP ME!

I would worship you but unfortunately the square brackets
are used for whatever the fuck I want to use them for as I
invented them. [I am so much better than you]

Kind Regards

Your Superior.

( square brackets are commonly used for editor's comments
(which can be extended to include asides, which is how ecna
is using them.. ) )

Square brackets are used in situations that are just too
desperate for regular brackets.

God help you if you need curly ones. Then you're either
insane or a C programmer, or both, and when you start
calling them "parentheses" is the point guns are needed.

And can you compare a string and a character array in C? I
only know C#

Oh, and at the point of comparison, won't xceque equal null?
Programatically iffy, but fairly reflective of real life :(

glad to see that you're back in prime form.

Unfortunately that doesn't include an ability to program.
xceque == "sensible" has unpredictable results in C; to
actually check for equal strings do

if (!strcmp(xceque, "sensible"))

but of course equating a person with a string has no
semantic sensibility anyway.

xceque in c++ a std::string can have equality checked with a
character array using overloaded ==.. you can also use
member function c_str() within a strcmp(), but that's less
efficient.

Fucking hell...I only put the shit in there because I was
trying to use all bracket types in something that resembled
a program, I didn't intend for you to implement it in a
nuclear power stations safety systems.

Maybe I should have done

char[] xceque = "Never right";

if(strcmp(xceque,"sensible") == 0) {
printf ("Who would have thought it");
}

:D

strcmp can return a negative value also, it is return type
is not boolean :D

hey my nuclear juice factory still pimped you; I did

if (!strcmp(xceque, "sensible")),

not this ==0 shit you put. and what's with curly braces
wrapping a single statement?

and don't forget to do const char[] not just char, and your
printf() probably wants a newline character.

this post cost 4 fresh oranges!

strcmp returns 0 if they are equal, and -1/+1 if they are
inqual.

so !strcmp flips the not-zero and zero cases, and makes it
work how I want it.

I use the curly brackets around even single statements for
readabillity reasons....fuck newline characters they are
worthless :D

Depends on the C implementation...it doesn't specify whether
the integer returned is 1 or not. Therefore I would prefer
to use a zero comparison rather than a negation...but surely
you recognise it is purely down to choice of style. :D

offline sneakattack on 2004-04-09 19:37 [#01137263]

the common unix paradigm for error reporting depends on this
sort of behavior... often you'll see shit like

if (bind(blah, blahc, blahs)) {
//..handle error
}

(bind returns 0 on success)

incorrect, it is standard-defined. 0 evaluates to false,
any integer other than zero evalutes to true.
