PS2 Vs. XBox

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-26 07:01 [#00064115]

I got an XBox for Christmas with Munch's Oddysee, Tony Hawk
2X, and DOA 3.

Basically 2X doesn't have much improvement over 2, which I
was addicted to, so I'm planning on returning it.

Although Munch has all the strangeness of the good old
oddworld from Playstation, it doesn't really capture the fun
of the gameplay of the old game, maybe my tastes are just
changing.

I haven't even opened DOA 3 yet, and for this reason:

I'm thinking about returning the Xbox and getting a
playstation 2. I know that Xbox is a much more powerful
peice of machinery, but the games just aren't there.

I want to be playing:

New Resident Evils
Final Fantasy X
Metal Gear 2
Grand Theft Auto
Tony Hawk 3
etc.

The graphics on Xbox are much better, its better designed,
and it has a greater potential, but will the games ever be
there? Xbox games just seemed to be aimed at the less
intelligent. I don't want to collect powerups or snowboard
I want to playing interesting game play games, role playing
games, etc.

Should I stick it out with my Xbox?
Or should I trade it in?

I don't know if I can live without Squaresoft games!!!

Well, i just opened my brand new copy of FFX and am so far
blown away. Yesteray I beat Metal Gear Solid 2, and I loved
every minute of it. I say you go with the sure thing man
and grab a ps2 because their are already great games for it
and most likely even better games coming out for it in the
future.

D-Hex from KC Missouri on 2001-12-26 07:21 [#00064117]

Oh and by the way, you wont find any new Resident Evils on
PS2 because they will only be appearing on the Gamecube for
now on.

Joyrex from joyrex.com of course! on 2001-12-26 07:25 [#00064119]

You won't find RE on the PS2 AT FIRST, but they will come
out for PS2 after the GC releases. Capcom wouldn't cut off
their bread n' butter that easily.

Get rid of the X-Crap I say and get a PS2 and some games!

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-26 07:37 [#00064122]

Oh my god, Capcom pledged RE exclusively to the Kiddie Cube?
Why didn't they just through their money out the window?
Anyway I can play all the other ones on my ps1 and I've
beaten code Veronia. It won't be forever until RE 4 comes
out (I don't care about GC improved graphics) so something
will have changed by then. My big question is RPGs...Rumor
has it that FFXI will be for Xbox, which would be a good
move for Square considering the online capabilities of Xbox.
I'm probably going to follow squaresoft at the moment...

Thanks for the tip guys, I'm not going to buy another system
though for years so will I regret switching to PS2 when I'm
in college and Chrono Trigger X comes out for Xbox?

D-Hex from KC Missouri on 2001-12-26 08:04 [#00064125]

Well, fuck Chrono Trigger cuz Chrono Cross sucked.
Secondly, FFIX is confirmed for PS2 but could possibly be
released on xbox too. If you wanna follow squaresoft then
you should definately get a ps2.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-26 08:45 [#00064126]

Chrono Cross did suck...they can make a recovery tho, maybe.
I'm starting to think I do have to go for the ps2...we'll
see

Joyrex from joyrex.com, of course! on 2001-12-26 16:00 [#00064157]

Read again: RE is going to be exclusive to the GC AT FIRST,
then it will appear on other platforms (PS2).

Square will not release a FF game on the Xbox since Sony
just bought a large share of Square after their huge loss in
the FF movie.

Miximus Masterus Maximus on 2001-12-26 18:09 [#00064173]

Grand Theft Auto 3 is worth getting a PS2 for. So there.

corngrower from Iowa on 2001-12-27 01:04 [#00064242]

Right now PS2 is the better buy because it already has alot
of great games to choose from. But, I think that when Xbox
gets its feet wet and gets some more games out there, it
will surface as the top console. But, for now, my vote
stays with PS2.... untill X can top games like grand theft
auto 3, red faction, metal gear 3 and grant turismo 3

bumblefuk on 2001-12-27 02:10 [#00064252]

where the hell do you live? .....that will let you return
opened games and gamesystems?

Joyrex from joyrex.com of course! on 2001-12-27 03:52 [#00064272]

That's true, if the Xbox does survive (and old billy will
pump cash into it to make it survive), it will force Sony to
move up release of the PS3, as much as a year earlier than
intended (they wanted the PS2 to live until 2004-05). No big
deal, as long as Sony keeps the backward compatibility with
the older games and of course delivers on the hardware,
which they usually do.

LeMoN from ? on 2001-12-27 04:53 [#00064278]

PS2 easily has the most reliable game library right now, it
has some class tripleA shit...Hell, I will buy one
eventually, or at least a PS3 if it has backward
compatibility..but, IMO, Gamecube will have the strongest
library of platinum quality games. You all wait and see, the
new Mario, Zelda, Perfect Dark, Metroid, and whatever else
they have up their sleeves, you know its gonna be sweet. Not
to mention they will have more third party support because
they are no longer cartridge, a perfect example being the
Resident Evil's...oh, and Capcom signed the new RE's to be
on Gamecube ONLY. You wont see them ported to another system
for years, so if u want to play the new resident evils
within the next 2 years, u need a GC. Oh, and the RE1 remake
looks soo fuckin amazing.

Xen on 2001-12-27 04:55 [#00064280]

well i just got a PS2 with Pro Evolution Soccer - brilliant
and GTA3 - genius !! :D

D-Hex from KC Missouri on 2001-12-27 07:06 [#00064299]

Yeah the remake of RE does look fuggin incredible.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-27 09:22 [#00064315]

You are right, they won't let me return it, the bastards. I
all made up my mind to trade it in for the PS2 and now I'm
stuck with the xbox, a terrible situation. I wish I didn't
even think I had the option. I really wish I could trade in
Tony Hawk 2x for something else like Halo. Has anyone
played Halo before? Munch's oddysee is so/so. I haven't
even opened DOA3 because I think I might want to exchange it
for halo. All in all I am definately dissapointed with
XBox, I have looked online and I don't even see anything
really spectacular to look forward to for the box. I might
put signs up in my school offering a temporary/permanent
trade for a PS2. I'm sure there's a ton of kids who've
already beaten FFX, Metal Gear 2, and GTA3 who are looking
for something new...

Should I exhange DOA for Halo? Any thoughts?

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-27 09:23 [#00064316]

I'm not big on fighting games (except for some of the
classics like Street Fighter and Rival Schools)...then again
I'm not that into FPShooters, but halo looks sick..

(sick meaning good)

Chrispy from UK on 2001-12-27 09:47 [#00064318]

Can someone tell me: What Platform is Tekken 4 gonna be out
on? Tekken 4 is phenominal! It's soo good in the Arcade.
Please someone tell me, It's gonna affect my desision.

Jedi Chris from North Pole on 2001-12-27 10:07 [#00064319]

The discussion as to what console is better than which will
never end! It depends when you buy the machine doesn't it? I
had my PS2 this Feb and I know that Gamecube and XBox are
meant to be better, but thats only for now! My next console
will be PS3!! 007 Agent Under Fire is the game of the
season!! Nothing like hunting someone down in multiplayer
mode and filling them with lead on christmas morn!!! ho ho
ho ! Grand Theft Auto 3 is the business too!

Intruder from chicago on 2001-12-27 10:52 [#00064325]

Tekken 4 will be on PS2. i cant tell you if the other
platforms will get it as well, but its definetly on for ps2.

On the fighter subject, Sega's virtua Fighter 4 is a PS2
exclusive game, which looks VERY impressive.

As for which to go with, X-box or PS2? i have had my ps2
since launch day(10/00), and i couldnt be happier with it. I
made my fiance buy me a GameCube this christmas which also
rocks much ass. the thought of getting an Xbox never crossed
my mind. all it is, is a hype machine. no offense to Xbox
owners, but anyone who belive that xbox can push over 100
million polygons on screen, is a complete moron. so it has a
700mhz processor. people hear that and flip out cause they
think its so much more powerful thatn anything else.
iurge you to look into the actual GRAPHICS processor, then
tell me what you think in comparison.
My opinion has always been that Xbox will go the way of the
3DO, it will stay around only because its manufacturer has
the money to keep it around. but eventually, you can kiss it
goodbye.
get a PS2 and a GameCube. you WILL BE SET!

Chrispy from UK on 2001-12-27 11:48 [#00064331]

Thanks mate. s'all I need to know.

jand from Chelmsford,Essex,Uk on 2001-12-27 11:50 [#00064332]

Xanatos...have a bit of patience, mate; XBOX is only a
couple of months old and it'll take some time for Developers
to get to grips with whats possible; there was a similar
situation with PS2 when it was first released (same with
most consoles, I guess)... good thing about XBOX is it's a
platform that devs already know quite well so it won't take
very long before the X has a decent lib of games
available...

I'm sure in 3-6 months time, the situation will improve
10x...

A suggestion regarding your unreturnable Xbox and games:

It's still a hot commodity on Ebay, put it up there, and
you'll be lucky to break even, very lucky if you make a
slight profit, and fortunate if you only lose 50-100 dollars
off the deal, but that will give you the dough to buy a PS2
and a game or two (lots of used PS2 games for under 30
dollars online and in stores that sell used games.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-27 20:31 [#00064426]

Mixed opinions here...informative thought thanks

Joyrex: I thought about doing that however I am sure that
after opening my box and 2 of my 3 games I am bound to lose
$100 people who buy from ebay are there to save money, and
know what things cost retail, especially when they have to
pay extra S&P. I might sell just my Tony Hawk 2X, I am a
dumbass for opening it I knew I didn't want it. I think the
only way I could come out even would be to trade the box
temporarily or permanently to someone else.

Question: Should I exchange DOA3 for Halo or Max Payne? I
have not played any of these 3 games...

LtAirComStarscream from NY on 2001-12-27 21:22 [#00064448]

X box has no japanese support and no ones buying it there so
thats gonna be its downfall. i would suggest getting a ps2
or a cube.

If i were you, I would definetly exchange DOA3 for halo.
I've played halo, and it is definetly the shit, better than
DOA3 no doubt. havnt played max payne yet, but it does look
quite good.
You should rent halo and max payne, in order to see which
game you would enjoy more before comitting.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-27 23:16 [#00064482]

^ that's $8, fuckit, I'm going for Halo...my bro said it was
terrific

Joyrex from joyrex.com, of course! on 2001-12-27 23:31 [#00064487]

But, the Xbox is somewhat difficult to find - remember in 00
when the PS2 was going for 3 and 4 times it's value on Ebay?
The Xbox is still hot right now, you could probably end up
with more than you paid if you were lucky.

revpersona on 2001-12-28 00:30 [#00064499]

CC sucked? lol. CC was better than the FF's on PS(exception
tactics). If I were you, go return/trade-in your x-box for
a PS2.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-28 03:20 [#00064525]

cc sucked compared to chrono trigger
ff7 did the series justice

cc is still an amazing game...and good god FFTactics fucking

the best value for money and quality of gaming choice is to
download a SNES emulator, then download loads of classic
games for it!!!

nintendo rules!!! i dont care whether there are only 3 games
for the gamecube, i'd buy it just for those 3. zelda is
amazing.
