Erik Satie makes me melancholy. As do the Tindertsticks and
Susumu Yokota as mentioned above. And American Music Club,
Mark Eitzel, "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock" by Talk
Talk, Scott Walker (Tilt is one of my fave albums), SAW
85-92, David Bowie "Low", "Goodnight Kiss" by Black Box
Recorder, "Still Life" by Suede, and "Solitude" by B12 /
Redcell.

What's your favorite material from Erik Satie? Would it
happen to be the nocturnes(not spelled right)?

I like anything I ever heard by him, Trois Gynopiedes
(possibly not spelled right either)...anything. I am no
great scholar on his work, I must admit.

I hope DeLtoiD isn't referring to my avatar which took me
ages to do and was ALL my idea.

o_O what the hell?

isn't every music (or almost) emotional? why do you guys
listen music for, just analyzing??

(and i can't believe Autechre was the first name some of you
noted - it's great music but also some of the coldest i
know...)

hehe... Conor Oberst is a strange thing. It sings all its
songs with the same painful quavering tortured voice that it
just gets plain funny to listen to any of them at all after
a while - which is entertaining in itself, but it's a bit
difficult to believe it's all genuine. For me, the award
for most over-preformed lyrics used to belong to Johnny
Indovina who sounds like he's on his last breath at any
given moment, but Mr. Oberst has topped that.

i love conor oberst, his lyrics are pwerful as fuck, and i
barely even notice that in his voice anymore. i dunno, i
think he's incredible.

Autechre is often cold, yes.. but I find that it's purity
and relentless power are the reasons why it hits me like it
does.. and the times when you can hear the humanity bleeding
through are powerful as well.

as for acoustic artists, one of the last year's releases
that really pushed my emotional buttons was Pat Metheny's
One Quiet Night... it's a beautiful album.
