If you liked the dark crystal, or labyrinth, then DON'T get
the storyteller dvd. I stumbled on it through amazon.com
recently. It had great reviews and I thought I'd see some
wicked new puppet creatures, in an evil story vein sort of
like aesop (with grandmas getting eaten by wolves (little
red riding hoodish) etc). But instead the actors are 85
percent human and the stories are 85 percent dumb.

dark crystal- A
labyrinth- A
the storyteller series- D

naaah the Storyteller is great.

there's lots of great puppet creatures in them.

those dvd's are crappy quality though.

I also got "penthouse:pets in paradise" in the same order.
It was... somewhat good I guess. But there was too much
lesbian stuff.

there were two series of The Storyteller.

the original had John Hurt as the storyteller, still the dog
though. those stories were more fairytale like.

the later series was with the Greek myths, and with Michael
Gambon as the storyteller I believe, not Sir Ian.

The one I have had that dude from elephant man in it, john
hurt (and the dog)... that dog was the best muppety thing in
the whole series, it perked its ears in an eerily similar
way to real dogs and stuff. (by the way does anyone remember
that easter television muppety jim hensonish show about...
peter rabbit perhaps... where there's a farmer and his
muppet dog and some rabbits?)

hmm.. that might be it, but they look like cartoons not
muppety things.

The Greek Myths storyteller is a huge letdown, but the
original with John Hurt is great!
Btw, that dog is the same one they used in the freggles.

the original dog was voiced by Jim Henson himself.

the Greek myth series uses Brian Henson, his son, as Jim H.
had by then already had his fatal heartattack. :(
