autechre melodic nonsense

I posted a steaming mass of drivel in the thread which
unforunately morphed into autechre bashing panic, and just
thought I'd start a nice clean slate of happy autechre talk.
Please overrun it with insults directed at my glorious
existence.

My last violently interesting thread was cohesion between
tracks.. now I'm going to scream about their melodic sense.
I'd just like to point out two pairs of melodies which are
_very_ close:

yulquen <--> eggshell
pen expers <--> vletrmx

I'm as verbose as death isn't, so I'm going to shut up now,
but look forward to hearing about other related autechre
melodies people like, comments on their general melodic
structure, how wrong I am, and what isn't for dinner.

damn I'm suppressing the urge to write pages again. I'm
like this in real life too--it's really dreary.

crap I have to say something. amber is obviously very
melody driven (some would say this is a redundant comment
because _everything_ should be melody-centric), and I like
how it progresses to the very nasty sounding bass line of
teartear, which by the way contains the very rare interval
(in basslines in this genre) of a minor 10th..

not very into autechre...
but among their melodic tracks that I have heard, I like
"Arch Carrier" and "Gantz Graf" (although GG is not very
melodic driven)...

hi, if you don't like their stuff, 444, windwind, teartear,
and eggshell are all excellent and very accessible melodic
tracks.

By accessible I don't mean "I'm great, I see things you
don't", or "four turnips makes coffee green!", but rather
"you hate their stuff but this may bring a smile"

i think gantz graf IS very melodic, just not overly notey.

what is that saying, its not about what strokes the painter
makes, but which ones he DOESnt?

did you read my post or not?
I just think your reply is a bit weird considering what I
wrote in it.
But yeah I know there is some good autechre out there that I
need to check out.

yes, but you started out by saying "if you don't like their
stuff" and I just explained I did (atleast I didn't say
anything about NOT likeing autechre)...

yeahz tibbz, GG is quite melodic... I thought that word
meant something else... anyway I looked it up.
And I think GG is melodic, yes.

I quote: "not very into autechre... ". That means 'at the
moment, I can't say I am very interested in them'

sorry if I am steering this topic off-topic now but

That means 'at the moment, I can't say I am very
interested in them'

yes it does. But it doesn't mean I don't like their work.
Just that I listen to a lot of other stuff at the moment.
Once I have a hole to fill, autechre is part of what I want
to fill it with.
I can still have an opinion about what I have heard of their
work, and I do like most of it.
So, no I am not into them, but I do like most of what I have
heard of their work.

my apologies. I was careful to write 'at the moment' in my
definition because I guessed what you meant, but then
proceeded to flog a dead horse in a heinous act of violence
and debauchery (against everything).

no problem...
You use a lot of beautiful words and expressions when you
write, but me not being very good at english (my 2nd
language) don't understand all of it.
I guess this could be a chance to get better at learning
english, and I'm absolutely not telling you to simplify your
language, I just want you to know, that's how it is.
peaces!

I mean I can, of course 'guess' what the words mean through
what context their used in, but it's not the same...

anyway it's a cold morning here today (-3 C right now).

wow, what a nice thing to say. My english is sometimes
weird because I read only technical manuals.. but anyway,
cheers! I'm in NYC, it's 7 C right now, enough of a
difference to make it infinitely more pleasant. some crappy
rain, though.

I got all hot when people start talking about technical
music stuff like using a "minor 10th" or something like
that. I looooooove reading details about time signatures or
how certain melodies are unique in their construction.

I demand more discussion of this nature. Please :)

But while we're at it

"yulquen <--> eggshell
pen expers <--> vletrmx"

I agree, though I had never heard it that way until
listening to those melodies just now.

Ae is pretty freeform, if you like odd structures V snares
does a nice 7/4
