I've been having lots of mythological "discussions" with one of my best friends, as he is in a classical mythology class. We've both always been fascinated with mythology, even if it is just glorified fairy tales. In fact, mythology at its base is really just a religious didactic like the bible. However, the stories are interesting, at least to me. I recently reinstalled the game Age of Mythology and have been loving waging a Greek (which is my favorite 'section' of mythology) war of conquest. :)
Do you like mythology? If so, what is your favorite tale?
I don't know if I have a FAV favorite, but one of mine is the story of how Perseus defeats Medusa, and then goes on to be even mightier by using her head to turn his enemies to stone. He kept it in a magical bag that, if memory serves correct, was given to him by Athena.

Did you know Noahs arc style story predate the bible and versions of the same story exist in the history of every culture.

Noah had an Ark. He wasn't a geometrist. :P
Zephyr: I was really into mythology when I was about 7. I knew all the major greek myths off by heart as well as a lot of the Norse ones. Even at that age, I saw the parallels between them, recurring characters, etc.

No Greek mythology = faggotry given the amount of man - boy fucking that went on (and probably still does go on) in Greece.

yeah, I used to be WAY more into it when I was around 8-9 than I guess I am now, at least in terms of how much I used to read about it, but I've slowly been re-reaing more and more and touching up my memory. It may be that children have an easier time identifying with mythology since their minds are more open to the idea of fantastical creatures that an adult might immediately discredit as ridiculous.
Even if they are ridiculous, they're still fun.

Thor and Loki were both sons of Odin, similar to Zeus being the chief god of Greek polytheism and having sons and daughters that were lesser gods...
But isn't Chronos actually Zeus' father?

Cronos was Zeus's father, yes. He was, however, the youngest of the Titans, and thus not truly a god in the Greek sense of the word. When Zeus dethroned him, the race of Gods was born, and they had to battle the titans for control.
I can't think about any of this without having to play Age of Mythology afterwards, it's such an awful addiction. I barely make it through my Greek classes sometimes, with all that talk of triremes and hoplites, and everything...
