There is kind of a trend in modern horror where a virus or
something like that is used to explain the phenomenon rather
than the occult. There are a lot of vampire stories like
that, Underworld being the most recent. Underworld is
however still a vampire movie whether the vampires were made
by a strange virus or because an angry Vlad Tepesh drove his
sword into a cross cursing God and selling his soul to
Satan. They still drink blood, hide from ther sun, and
generally associate themselves with the gothic-industrial
underworld.
