With the upcoming march release of the latest AFX album, there are alot of rumours flying about as to what it will be.
some think it'll be a single from drukqs. some say a hab compilation. i have even heard it will be the mysterious caustic window album.
All i know so far is what my distrubutor has told me. we have a pretty cool realationship and i doubt he would feed me any crap, unless of course thats what he ate.
But i'm told it will be on Rephlex for sure. and that its going to be another volume in the annalogue bubblebath series. could be 5, could be a new one. thats all i know.
how bout you guys?

5 was never officially released. It's only on the internet because a few test-pressings were made, then Rich decided that it wasn't up to par with his standards.

was not what is called now analogue bubblebath 5, originally planned as AB4, but then scraped? they share one track. but then, why would "AB5" have CAT 034, a later release than AB4? did he change his mind, then change his mind again? i'm not sure people have the whole truth here.
to totally take a wild guess......... how about an AFX release with the other 2 CDs of stuff that was not on Drukqs? (Richard did say he wanted to released 4 CDs because he left all those mp3s on the airplane). So maybe it will be the rest of the releasable mp3 player tracks? That would be cool. Hopefully better piano solo tracks thou.

AB5 was going to be released after AB4 (hence the higher CAT#) but also you must understand that they plan out the year's releases far in advance, and Richard probably had a load of tracks ready for both, paired it down to the ones he wanted, and if I understood things correctly, AB4 was to be a 'single' for AB5, both sharing 'cuckoo' (not it's real name) in common. Either they got busy with other releases, or they decided that rather than release another Richard-related release that year, they held off AB5 which eventually got canned.
Also, the rumoured Aphex release on Rephlex is scheduled for a Feb-May release, not March according to my source. He pegged DrukQs down to the month last time, so we'll see if he comes through this time.

Only Richard knows *for sure* why he released DrukQs, but the general vibe I've heard is it fulfilled his contract with WARP (two more albums), he released his planned double CD, quad vinyl as he wanted to, and he made an album of piano tracks like he always wanted to. It also made WARP quite a bit of change I've heard, and also put him in good graces with London-Sire again (they were really pissed after advancing him 90,000 for Windowlicker and the hopes of a album that fall). I don't know the details of his relationship with WARP (good or bad for that matter) and exactly why he's decided to leave. Probably has a lot to do with contracts, and having to release on a regular basis. Putting stuff out on his new label with Tom and Rephlex, he'll truely be able to release what he wants, and when.
Now that Richard's free of WARP, he will release the really innovative stuff he's been working on, and not the older material (like some of DrukQs). Please keep in mind this is only my opinion in regards to the new material thing, I've got no info on what the new album will sound like.
Wouldn't it be funny if his first Aphex Twin release on Rephlex was AB5? Highly unlikely though, I doubt AB5 will ever see a proper release. Too bad too, because I think it's an amazing record, easily standing up with AB2 and 3 (my favourites from the AB series)

it'd be fucking wicked I think if he did some stuff on the more "traditional" instruments... ie; guitar, drums, bass
AND NO EFFECTS!! RECORD EVERYTHING ANALOG!! (this would truly be bull-shit and I hope that he doesn't do this)
