I think it would be ok if the beats were more dynamic it just sounds really messy at the moment and in all honesty i did like the music all that much but maybe you are trying to put the beats to the forefront.

that ambient sounding synth in the background seems to be sucking all the range out of your track (does that make sense?)
the drum programming is brilliant :) it just feels to me like it coud do with being brought right up, you know? i love massive drums, and to me this track feels like the drums could be fucking humongous!
i like this though, nice weird sounding synths and stuff

Sounds ok. Quite impressed with the beat programming. I'm struggling with what else to offer. It has that mad breakcore/V Snares feel. Bit Xanocoptian in parts? I'm kinda struggling with these kinda extreme beats these days. For me slightly stronger rhythmic hooks/elements/build ups would do it for me and more variation in the drum sounds (perhaps some distinct snares?). I don't know I'm kinda stuck on this track. Part of me likes it and part of me isn't too sure. Its needs more - something more to kinda make it more complete. Kinda intrigued with this track all the same. Interesting.

its not finished i put the melody/pad in just to keep the track listening to beat programming is ok but not for 3mins
it does need a hook melody but it was mainly to see if my beats had improved
i cant class my own opinion in what i make as i hear what i want to

The problem is that the drums sound like one constant break down rather a rolling beat. It's OK for a section but you can't sustain a whole track with that style.

hehe, yeah this stuff is a bitch to do.....i don't think i'm even gonna attempt fast drum rushes like this stuff for a very long time
but i have always been a sucker for massive drums, whether they're beats or breaks (in my terminology beats=drum machines, synthdrums etc, breaks=sampled/cut up breakbeats)....i'm a very percussive person....when i listen to a track, the first thing that i listen to is the drums
that's why i adore the drill tracks - i think that the drum programming in stuff like that is amazing, and i wish so hard to be able to do stuff like that
i guess i'll have to settle for my simplistic sounding beats for now!

I would say being in 'the right mood' plays a part for a track like this too. You gotta be in a pretty open/dark/goth mood to appreciate this kinda track I'd say.

hehe that is actually an arguement I have made about Snares later music. I don't like tracks where the beat is really really fragmented. Partly because I know just how easy it is to throw together a drill beat in less than 5 minutes that can sound decent.

i kind of agree with what ecnadiarb was saying about the drums - it would be cooler if there were points of more discernable rhythms in there. i like the synths in the background a lot. all the sounds have great distinctive textures that go well together.

Basically I agree and also you can get away with a lot more (mistakes?) at high speeds and in the V Snares style. This sounds like a track done in one of those odd time signatures 38434.22/24983492 or whatever. I just do tracks in 4/4. I'd attempt more complex faster stuff if I had the PC power 'cause you got to bring more elements in all the time to make it interesting. I do do faster breaks but it requires more thought and I like to understand what I'm doing.

And it is just 4/4 at high BPM. Don't you people experiment? :D

yeh, i always use 4/4
i have been thinking about using 3/3, or something
i've always been intrigued by NIN's March Of The Pigs.......it's got a weird time sig, but i just can't figure out what sig it is!
i agree with what you said about having to bring more elements in to make it more interesting, because you can't just have a mad beat/break going with a few melodies, you have to build up a good soundscape of aural stuff.
also i noticed that when i shifted from making tracks at around 130bpm up to 170bpm, things seemed to clip out a hell of a lot easier....i dunno why, but it did. when i did Tirade, i had a major time just fixing sound levels.
i still ended up fucking up the mixing on the live guitars :(
but there's fuck all i can do about it now...the files are still on my college's hard drive

Well I always thought it was. You must be using a tracker or something.
I started experimenting with some full drum breaks matching them to (a slow) tempo using AO DKL drum machine and the results are sweet.

Yes it needs some serious mastering... split the drums into three parts, bass, snare, hats, add compression with a slightly long attack (10 ms or so depending on the part), compress, and bring up the volume again to match.
It's hard to hear the intricate drum parts above the bass drum. Some cool little licks though. Some parts don't flow quite right and I can't be sure if you meant it the way it was. I like the break, the effects there are really good on the snare.
Can't understand the background part at all sadly, just doesn't add to what's going on.
Yeah, your programming is definitly getting better, I think if you figure out how to master this stuff right it will go to a whole new level.
Man, this piece lends perfectly to visuals ala Find Candace style. About halfway into the piece I really start feeling it which is unusual for me and drill, nice job. The breaks you have in there are well placed, very nice to change the mood.
That's impressive for Reason, I think that's a BIG part of the mastering problem. Maybe throw it into something with VSTs and fool with it

the problem is the distortion from mp3 compression coupled with the feedback with the pads
the wav version all is apparant within the song i was going to separte all the channels for the mastered version but i cant be botherd unless i add something more melodic to it

I like the Kick sound, and what sounds like some kind of echoverb used on it. I like the crackling and the background texture, too -- the lack of "mastering" isn't a lack at all, really. I like it being a hodgepodge -- reminds me kinda of Blind Torture Kill, one of my old tracks... still 2m30s to go, though, so anything could happen! hmm... maybe a little mastering wouldn't go amiss -- well, at least, some EQ mastering anyways! :D

nice one nobsmuggler. This is the type of thing i like to see live and loud and mp3 doesn't do it justice. The beats were good, nice frantic breaks, an especially nice sounding lite metallic snare at times doing rolls. Maybe the main bd could be separted a bit from the main background rumbling ambient concrete plex sound. Good beat programming in terms of how the beats gained momentum and tokk me from one part of the song to another. I liked the second half more than the first especially that broken down section with static sort of eating everything else and then a great weeping scraping synth sound. be nice to hear some more melodies. The more beautiful and stark the melody the more the nasty beats sound better.
