Proem!

Adam Piontek from New York City on 2001-12-21 16:57 [#00063208]

Everybody needs a little Proem in their lives. Check out his
album Negativ on Merck Records (www.m3rck.net) ... worth
every penny!

Or try his newest album, "Among Others", available on
MiniDisc only via N5MD (www.n5md.com)

adam,

i agree. his first called burn plate no. 1 on hydrant is
just as lush as negativ. proem is top-notch.

I'd say it's better than squarepusher, slower but with
better melody. I have burn plate 1 and some other one I
forget the name of, maybe negativ.

I prefer proem by far over squarepusher but I'm not sure
they're both in the same league. I respect what
squarepusher is doing but its not what I find myself
interested in the most. proem seems like it would be more
comparable to phonem, arovane, or brothomstates. sometimes
i think that the proem sound is one that Autechre could have
taken right after amber. what do you think?

I havn't really heard enough to make up my mind. I bought
arovane's "atol scrap" and was unimpressed because the
soundscapes turned boring, maybe it's too repetitive. He is
quite good at molding sound, and it's practically unique to
have melody in complex elecro stuff... I just don't like the
direction he takes it. Every artist has their own style, at
least the ones that make it for a good reason, that comes
from an evolution of technique which depends on what
equipment they have available etc. I definately like the way
autechre's music turned out, I think it's way better than
proem.

proem over squarepusher?...nooo way...the two i would not
even compare

Well they both use sounds in cut/copy/paste ways, I
definately like squarepusher's detail in the arrangement of
the sounds and the speed and intricasy, but proem has better
sounds themselves, and also better melodies. (I don't really
like sq. push's weird jazz melodies most of the time but his
beats are ace)

i love squarepushers weird jazz melodies...true he doesnt go
out of the way as far as drum samples/loops are concerned,
but he is so much more complex than proem(melody wise and in
the rythm)..i think it may have to do with my love of jazz
that draws me to SP...that and im a sucker for a good
bassline
