Scientists have found a roughly Pluto sized object circling
the sun, does this mean we have another planet?? We will
find out at a later date as they look into it further.
anyone else read this or see this today?

elliptical orbit, 3-30x the distance that pluto is,
3/4th the size of pluto

since you are so happily laughing loudly, i will let you in
on a little secret: this's where i'm from. i'm a rare type
of frozen ice monster. and i'll gitt y'all,
someday, for discovering and defaming my home planet. you're
all just nice-planet-ruining bastards. for a
ruthless, completely uncivilised creature, i am an extremely
environment-conscious individual. also, you could call me a
kind of hillbilly or hick.. or, a hairy and densely
furred, hippie-hermit.. also, there's no other member of my
species. so i will one day propagate with myself
excruciatingly/asexually to sustain my species....

They found it because someone cleaned the lens.

I've been allways intrested in this shit. And hopefully we
will get more information about this soon. I heard on the
radio that the temperature there is something like -250'c,
so its damn cold.

hmm.. that sounds an awful lot like pluto...

have they checked that it isn't just pluto that has taken a
small detour or something?

here is pluto and charon (pluto's moon), as compared to the
u.s.

about the size of our own moon I think.

nice, so we will say 2000 miles in diameter

offline mappatazee from ¨y¨z¨| (Burkina Faso) on 2004-03-16 12:48 [#01110350]
Points: 14294 Status: Lurker

oh yeah, a bit smaller than our own moon.

quoar is shown here also.
pluto and quoar are basically just kuiper objects.

the 'new' planetoid fits more closely to that kepler order
thing or whatever.

offline mappatazee from ¨y¨z¨| (Burkina Faso) on 2004-03-16 12:52 [#01110353]

diameter
earth's moon: 2100miles
pluto: 1400
quoar: 800

I don't think they have determined the new one precisely,
but they said it is about 3/4th's the size of pluto so maybe
about 1000 miles in diameter

This whole story stinks. First they send up this Spitzer
telescope, then it happens to find something as dramatic as
this. Nice coincidence, especially when the time for budget
talks is around the corner.

Here's what I think. They found this a year ago, then
someone said, "Ok, this one goes to Spitzer. It hasn't done
anything meaningful yet." (then later, "Quick! Hide the
porn, the boss is coming!")

Maybe I've become a sceptic from reading all of Tom Clancy's
books, but I always find myself reverse-engineering news.
Just like CIA field agents.
