In april's sound on sound magazine. bought it today. its an interesting interview, and he reveals why some of the names are cryptic .e.g. 6ie.cr comes from 606ie, a 606 loop, and with theme from a sudden roundabout, sudden is actually a place.
He talks about why ae are so secretive and discusses how they have got to where they are now. i.e. started to hiphop remixes, etc, to draft 7.30.
He mentions various hardware and software things, I found it an interesting read, but don't have time to type up much more about it, its worth getting, oh and also it has screenshots of ae's max/msp software, which has an unusual interface look to it.
Also the magazine is especially interesting (april addition), few bits on additive synthesis (my pet electronics homemade project) and digital delays (I'm designing a chorus unit at the mo-v.similar theory), also gear reviews, and the like.

I'm afraid there aren't any links to that interview yet :-( SOS articles are put on-line 3 months after publication or something like that...
So I guess you have to subscribe, wait or buy the magazine...

Sort of restores my faith in them - I read a couple of interviews with Sean where he sounded stoned and arrogant and really, really stupid.
One thing that struck me is how they're against random generation, and how they use triggers to trigger other triggers in ways that let them control stuff in real-time - so it's not exactly random, but I'm sure it leads to lots of happy accidents.
God I wish I could stop working and just mess with shit like this 18 hours a day! :-|

buy the magazine, then you can drool over expenisve gear. Theres also a section on recreating blue monday by new order, which is interesting too. go on......
The articles appear online either 3 or 6 months later on sospubs.co.uk, but I don't know if they put interviews up. I know they do techniques and things like that.
Its a good magazine, since you can easily read it cover to cover, its packed full of interesting bits and pieces.

they aren't trying to reproduce anything.
Ironic, then, that they started out remixing and making mix tapes. :-)
But yeah, they're definitely one of the most forward looking outfits going... I'd like to hear some of what they left off Confield if what they left on is pop music in comparison.

Its a shame he didn't 'ham it up', and say he uses fruity loops for draft 7.30. Or even reason v.1 for confield, and rebirth for tri-repetae, all slightly tweaked on tape with a splicing block and knife. I don't see why afx should be the only one who can come up with complete crap. Maybe sos wouldn't beleive it, but many others would lap it up.
e.g. rdj made a sampler. yeah right!
