Just wanted to continue the conversation about music making
without messing up uglygarden's thread.

I think there are quite a few members here that do not make
music, or at least do not seem advertise if in fact that
they do.

I used to get ideas in my head about great music that i
would like to make but never had the chance, equipment or
knowledge to get the sounds out of my head. I would say
that the majority of people here just like to listen to
electronic music and no not actually make music. Do you
disagree?

Don't know. I guess its such a long time since I haven't not
created music that its hard to remember what its like not
to.

That said I've gone for months and sometimes a year without
doing anything (due to differing circumstances). For me its
just very enjoyable. Its my no1 pleasure really. I've been
doing tracks on and off for 10 years now I guess. Shit is it
that long :-o! I don't know how to read music or play or
anything but through people's criticisms etc I've just
pushed myself more.

I think that criticism is and has been key because its
definitely forced me to really think about everything I do
when making a track. All the finer points and trying to make
a track listenable etc etc and keep the interest going. That
said I also often get things wrong and knowingly don't feel
entirely satisfied with some tracks I do. So often I don't
feel entirely happy posting them up here.

how do you actually go about getting a sound from your mind
and turning it into real sound? I have no idea how to do
this. All I know how to do is use sounds already available
to me that someone else has made.

Jazembo,

Back. Been out.

How do you go about it. I suppose you just have a type of
track in mind, particular notes or whatever and you then
open open up Cubase and set about trying to create that
kinda of track. Most of the time things vary from what you
want to do originally but generally as I'm creating a track
I'll have the development of it in mind and the sort vibe I
want to create etc etc. Its nicer to do tracks when you want
to create a particular kinda of vibe or style though.

hmm..

I don't get ideas before I make tracks. I make a track,
and.. when the track is "done," I get ideas.

Yeah I get it that way too. Both ways really. I think about
a track later and think I want to do this or that to a track
too. Sometimes I get stuck in a rut with a track and thats
irritating.
