Hello.

Just recently I've been having a lot of problems with my
PC..

It's weird. The cursor begins to move really slow as I drag
it around, and the computer games I try playing are often in
slow-mo (one game only works properly when the screen
resolution is 800x600, whereas the setting above used to be
the norm for me). Another thing I've noticed is that my
system resources seem to falling quite quickly.. I used to
never see it below 90% and just recently I checked and it
was around 60%, maybe lower.

Any suggestions (other than 'buy a new computer') ?

Your HD might be close to full? You need to defrag your HD?

Buy a new computer.

Virus scan in progress...

What does defragmenting actually do?

defrag is like a compression tool

defrag is not a compression tool

it basically resorts your drive contents, so they're not all
over the place

but this doesn't sound like a fragmentation problem - your
hard drive has got nothing to do with your mouse

When degfraging it is a good thing to shut down all
backround programs like virus detectors and MSN or else the
defrag might never finish , it just goes on in a loop.
I don't know if this happens nowdays but it was a problem in
win 98.

Lovely! It stayed at 0% for an hour while I was out the
room, and at some point froze the computer! I'll try again
after I restart with all my startups disabled...

check if the amount of ram is the same as what you put in
there to begin with, if not, or if the resources are really
full try taking out a stick and seeing if using only the
other one gives you the same result.

it's possible for a pc to run with dead ram as long as you
have one good stick remaining.

if you only have one ram stick, try using msconfig to stop
some programs starting at startup, unless you're win2k, then
i can't remember how to stop things (bad luck for me cos
that's what i got).

it's def. a ram problem (too much shit going at once) or
could possibly be a cpu fan fuck up (especially if ur on a
pentium 3) causing an overheat throttle down problem.
