i have started to read about this,

would anyone recommend this concept ?

I've read a little...it seems really interesting. Somebody
once said to me that Budhism was similar in some ways to the
philosophy of the famous 18th Century Scot, David Hume. I
have read Enquiries Concerning Human Understanding and I
would definitely suggest that - it is very witty and well
written.

borix on 2001-12-20 16:46 [#00062825]

Just read about it, find out what you like and implement it
in your own lifestyle. Don't just try to do what the books
tell you. Make your own concept. I read some stuff about Zen
Budhism and its pretty strange (in Dutch I would say VAAG)
but some things make sense. Kinda kewl the concept of all
things in balance and the non-existence of knowledge. Kinda
liked it. #8P

... Shri Ganesh
.... Samsara
..... Karma
...... hohmmm...

btw: The songtitle 'Tha' from SAW 85-92 in Indian's language
mean "Sun".
I don't know if Richard wanted to mean that.

I actually did a course on religion in university, and we
talked about Budhism... interesting religion, kinda
confusing though... :)

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-20 17:12 [#00062832]

speaking of the religion course I did, we also studied
Islam, and at the time I was reading The Wheel of Time
series... anyways, it was pretty cool, because a lot of the
"old tongue" words used in The WOT series are actually
arabic words... for instance, Shai-Tan which is the evil guy
in the book actually means Satan, or Devil in arabic...
kinda cool actually... just a little tidbit for those
interested in the wheel of time...

Of religions that is some of the best I remember reading,
they're really in touch with nature and have some good
morals. I think einstein once remarked how he would choose
that religion if he HAD to choose one. or it was hinduism, I
don't know..

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-20 17:26 [#00062846]

yeah, the whole point of Buddhism is something like trying
to eliminate desire from within yourself, but that goal is a
desire in itself, so that's where it kinda gets weird... but
yeah, it's definately an interesting religion... you're not
worshiping a god so to speak (although, I believe a small
few do kind of worship Buddha), you're finding salvation
within yourself... pretty cool idea...

munkeys got answers from hoods on 2001-12-20 17:40 [#00062853]

Buddhism is not a religion

It is what you already are

but just maybe don't realise yet.

meditate until you feel more 'charmed' with things; more
calmed...

thats buddhism.

I don't need religion to enlighten or make my life
meaningful. I do it myself.

Aron? from Canada on 2001-12-20 17:58 [#00062861]

i don't personally belive in any particular religon either,
but i have read a lot of books on budhism. it's a really
interesting relion.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-20 18:20 [#00062866]

and Buddhism is considered a religion...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-20 18:25 [#00062867]

Buddhism is a religion... meditation is not a religion, but
meditation is just part of buddhism... you live your life
according to the teachings of Buddha, and your goal is to
reach Nirvana, and that's salvation... or is that Hinduism?
Hmm, ah well, it definately is a religion whether or not
you're for or against them...

DubleOSyx from The East on 2001-12-20 18:25 [#00062868]

Buddhism may not be a religion, but kama sutru or however
you spell it, should be a religion. A religion that is
based on cool things...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-20 19:43 [#00062893]

I worship anything involving sex.

munkeys from buns on 2001-12-20 19:43 [#00062894]

if youre good you go to heaven. THATS religion

if you are nice you will be reborn as a cow. THATS religion

if someone else believes in another god, KILL THEM. THATS
religion.

Buddhism is simply about realising the one-ness of things,
and the simple methods of acheiving that realisation. Its
cool because you don't have to go to buildings to worship or
pay money to some 'middle man' dude . its doesn't seem to
have dogmatic principles...

Tantric Buddhism. Cool...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-20 20:44 [#00062918]

have you studied Buddhism? I have... and it is a religion...
it's not a religion like Christianity, or Islam where you
worship a god, but it is still a religion...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-20 20:46 [#00062919]

buddhists have certain things they have to do, and they
follow the teachings of Buddha just as Christians follow the
teachings of Jesus... it is definately a religion, but
really, who cares... :)

Caserol Joe the Chubby from MPLS on 2001-12-20 20:59 [#00062921]

In every religion you will find various bits of wisdom along
with various bits of ignorance. I think Budhism is worth
studying at least at the surface level. I find it
prosperous to not follow a religion but pick up on the
various aspects that ring true in your life because, of
course, all the answers lie within your self.

Do Budhists believe in reincarnation?
If so then why do i keep coming back as the same thing?!
<(:¬

digidogheadlock from under a rock on 2001-12-20 21:10 [#00062924]

buddhism is a religion to some.. just plain philosophy to
others.. the form i studied was basically a athiest
philosophy in my opinion but w/ morals and such..
sub-sections of buddhism are religious and worship buddha
and also believe in reincarnation of all living things
(meaning they believe in souls).. like buddha being reborn
in a new host.. like the dalai lama for example... while
other forms are just a system of thought.. not really
worshiping a GOD(s) and do not believe in reincarnation..

there are so many versions of buddhism.. chinese, tibetan,
japanese (zen), etc etc... its intresting to say the
least... each version's views are a little different but
have the same back-bone of moral beliefs..

i would recommend religion to no one. i do not like religion
nor god beliefs, and i believe for those who do, it is their
responsibility to find a religion.

Korben Dallas from www.mp3.com/polcxd on 2001-12-20 22:51 [#00062975]

I've read a bit of Tibetan Buddhism (book of living and
dying) and studied some Schopenhauer - who as far as I know
was the first western philosopher to bring eastern thought
into his own or something.

Very interesting stuff ... nice concept - and in a general
sense was what Nietzsche reacted against! ?

Quite a compassionate take on things :)

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-21 03:27 [#00063048]

yeah, I have my beliefs personally, but I don't push them on
anyone... it's up to the person to decide... anyways,
buddhism is still a religion even though in some forms there
isn't god worship isn't it? I mean a religion doesn't need
to involve worshipping a god does it... I'm positive we
learned that buddhism that doesn't involve worshipping a god
is still a religion... but seriously, this is pointless...
who really cares?... :)

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-21 05:10 [#00063104]

as far as organized religion goes, you've picked a decent
one. They probably have historically caused the least
large-scale suffering of any religion of its size.

borix on 2001-12-21 10:50 [#00063137]

Budhism is NOT a religion but a way of thinking. People made
it into a religion because they are to stupid to think for
themselves and they need gods/godlikefigures/symbols to
convince themselves that all questions can be answered. Fuck
it. All is relative.

wizards teeth on 2001-12-21 11:09 [#00063146]

Am I right to say that religion is not tangible ?

Am I right to say that ideas are not tangible ?

Am I righ to say that concepts are not tangible ?

Am I right to say that Tango and Cash was once a concept ?

Am I right to say that Tango and Cash was once non Tangible
?

Am I therefore right to say that Tango and Cash is a
religion ?

If so this can also be modified for the Police Accedemy
