i have 2 new works that i would like to share with you
guys...
they are ideas/sketches for a film score i am doing to a
short film called stand up (will be on SBS TV EAT CARPET in
August for all you aussies)

she makes do : 2:49 : probably the more developed of the
2... i know the beat is very simple and i do plan on chord
changes..., i've only really spent about an hour on this,
still rough around the edges. piano, violin & cello.

alone in the cold : 2:19 : very simple skech, but i think its
quite effective... piano & strings... very sparse, written
in 20 minutes.

hope you enjoy, these are only ideas, the final product for
the film is going to be performed by a bunch of musicians,
this is just me figuring out the pieces... comments would be
lovely

she makes do : makes me think of VW. Nice moody peice.

alone in the cold : It took a couple of listens to this for
me to fully appreciate it. It is a really nice peice that
made my mind fill the other instrumentation in (if that
makes sense). It is sort of an underpinning melody rather
than a stand alone one, but it still works.

You are producing some top notch stuff though :D

thankyou for listening! i'm glad your feeling it too, i was
hoping i wasnt the only one... :)

VW = Volkswagon?

Yeah the piano reminded me of the Pram remix of LFO/Aphex
off Warp 10+3 for some reason, which is being used in the VW
Golf commercial here. I really like the whole atmosphere of
the track though. It's subdued and sad without being really
negative.

if(nobsmuggler->text == "bump this later") {
nobsmuggler->points ++;
}

More people really should acknowledge this fine work though.
:D

she makes do:
The cello has a really rich quality to it, really tangible
bass, you can sort of feel it sitting in front of you. Maybe
have the ambient noise thing a bit lower in the mix (at
least in the intro)- it jars a bit much for "the
mainstream". Nice to hear Xanpha type beats in it :)

alone in the cold:
Very simple as you say, but very good. My only criticism of
it as it is is that it's a bit too repetative for TV
soundtrack at the moment (unless there's a lot of action
going on in slow-mo to this scene :), but with a bit of
variation this'd be grand. Can't wait to hear the version
with live musicians.

Overall very good, an interesting new direction!

Two really nice tracks here, my favourite of the two being
'she makes me do' , it has got great melodies and has a
great emotional aspect coming across. The violins? work
great along with the piano.

I would have liked it to go on far maybe a minute of two
longer but you would have to put some more changes in for
that i guess.

'Alone in the cold' also very sombre, it seemed a little bit
empty on first listen but it is actually all there if you
wait for it. The melody was maybe little too quiet, but
once i picked up on it it was great.

May I also take this chance to say that I also enjoy
listening to your 'Minus one' album. Keep up the good work
teapot!

She makes do: although you could have made a change in the
middle (same chord / scale, just change the progression a
bit.. try larger jumps up in the scale and so-on), it was a
great track! I liked the way it sounded and felt, and I
would like to hear a little bit more developed tune!

I'm going to check out the other one, but in a few mins. I
have to run out and do something for my boss right now...

ya! I read the first post properly now...

In that case, I'll change it to:

She makes do: A great start with a good, minimal melody,
which I eagerly await the completion of.

Alone in the cold: ditto, although it seems like you may be
able to sow them together as one track.. but these are still
just scetches, so...

she makes do: nice, lovely depressing sad, but nice, kindda
touched me spiritual

alone in the cold: actually very simpel, 2 simpel comparing
it with the other one, but you'd spend three times more time
on that one so that's pretty obvious, but you actually know
how to play the piano?

and how is your record deal progressing?

im alright at the piano, but i used to be a lot better when
i studied in high school i was actually pretty awesome, but
then got into making music on the pc, and never really
touched keys again for about 5 years, when i picked up a
midi keyboard and controller... so im trying to get back to
where i was, slowly :)

songs and stuff, then at like 13 i started doing proper
training in school... in high school my music teacher would
tutor me and stuff... that ended when i was about 17...

Ok.

I was wondering, 'cause I'm self-taught (spelling?), and
after teaching myself lots of songs, I've recently started
doing scales and shit to get the pressure in my fingers
right, and to make my hands move up and down the keys
correctly...

I was just wondering if you had any tips as to how they
SHOULD move, if you had some real training...

well im really stiff at the moment, as you can hear in the
tracks, its all about being comfortable... once you know
what your playing you can relax and movement becomes a lot
easier, its all about practise... the more you play the
better your movements will become... regarding you do
constantly attempt to do stuff you cant quite do....

Ya, I know, but there is some way which makes your playing
more effective, in a sense.. you play so that your fingers
are easier to place on the keys when progressing. The right
hand, I've got.. that one goes (T = thumb, I = indexfinger,
C = center, R = (the next one, which in norwegian is
referred to as the ring-finger), P = the small one..
pinky???)

T, I, C, R, P, R, C, I, C, R, P.. and so-on... the fingers
glide. The thing is, the other hand is impossible.. I can
only do P, R, C, I, T, I, T, I, T, I, and so-on... that
can't be right...

right, but cant on my left... ive always really struggled on
my left

I think I enjoyed the second one a bit more.

Didn't care for the beats in she makes do - I
would've rather heard it beat-free. Everything else sounded
nice.

very nice, maybe too melancholy for my tastes. i enjoyed
these two.
