unless its your mates or youre involved in the nightclub
scene

dont you think?

im not really disillusioned personally - but in a broad
sense i dont think its valued.

theres no great stuff anymore of mid 80s calibre that
everyone can relate to

i think its the loss of meaningful vocal content that is
doing this genre in as a mainstream form

i just wonder if anyone else around here looks at it the
same way

i think the electro fad came and has mostly gone now.
so its kind of getting back to where it was before all the
hype.
which is pretty minimal.

i like "nu-80's electro" the most. 80's electro music that's
done today

you know, what dmx krew / breakin' records and john b are
doing. i think they're the only one doing it though.

i think Beverly Hills Cop Theme is my favourite electro song
from the 80's

I dunno, Electroclash was pretty big last year and it's
still influencing the current chart stuff (eg Britney -
Toxic), that's probably the nearest to the 80s stuff we've
had since then.

I luv electro! Always have always will do! Have gone a bit
off my top list of listening experiences. But tell me
someone who can put on 'Clear' and not go wild to it.

oscillik,

Cybotron. The most wicked electro vibes ever!

Check the LP 'Enter' but search check out the 12" release
'R9' too. I've got it!

After Cybotron came Model 500 (producer Juan Atkins) and
they are seriously dope too.

i'll be sure to look out for those, thanks

Here are some of my top electro groups/artists.

1. Newcleus ('Jam on it' and the 'Wikki Wikki Song' are
greats)
2. Warp 9 (totally funky and soulful)
3. Hashim ('We're Rocking the Planet' is a particular fav)

I'll think of others.

I've got a lot of Electro on Vinyl. The modern day electro
kings are Drexciya no question. They've done stuff under a
whole range of guises though. Their best guise is Japanese
Telecom IMO (more Kraftwerk but very nice).

DeLtoiD,

I suppose you could kinda say it has an electro vibe.

i met a guy at a house party a few years ago who had THE
electro series.
an infamous collection of compilations simply entitled
"electro" that were released in the late 70s and early 80s
with every breakin' tune worth having. he played me some of
it.. it was SO unbelieveably fat. he was a few year older
than me + had collected the entire series on vinyl as it was
released. but he wouldnt play these (let alone allow anyone
to touch them) and he'd re-collected the whole lot (20 or so
albums) when they were re-released on cd some years later.
needless to say i was jealous. all the oldies + goodies..
i've never seen them again since.

sigh

i think they had red sleeves with yellow lettering +
silhouettes of breakers in various positions..

deejay punk-roc's first lp (chickeneye) had quite an electro
feel in places. i saw him dj about 5 or 6 years ago - it was
a very electro-centric set. very cool.

alleys of your mind by cybertron is a fantastic,
slow-electro track.

acrid milk hall,

I've got a bunch of the Electro Series Comps on Vinyl.
They're not that hard to come by. Shit they use to have a
fair bunch of them at the Buy and Sell in Soho, Nottinghill
Gate etc etc. I've never had a problem picking up rare
electro cutz. I got plenty of Model 500, Hashim, Cybotron,
Warp 9, Drexciya on vinyl etc etc. I guess a lot of it must
be hard to locate these days.

bob,

You need to check Cybotron's 'R9' released in 1985. Last
ever decent Cybotron release. I've got it on Vinyl, picked
it up for £5 years ago (then again I never really pay much
for vinyl out of principle).

Cybotron practically invented techno along with a few others
and yet no one mentions them on this board. Alongside Model
500 they are hugely influentially and stand out a mile yet
no one gives them respect.
