i like here a lot, and im excited about her new album!

Album News
Whilst no official announcements have been made - we hear
that the new P J Harvey album can be expected this summer.
Our sources also tell us that the album was written,
performed and produced by Polly with Head & Polly recording
& mixing it. Rob Ellis, a long-time collaborator of Polly's,
played drums & percussion on the record. No news yet on an
album title but we have managed get information on some of
the track titles which include Who The Fuck?, Shame, The
Life And Death of Mr. Badmouth, The Letter and The Pocket
Knife amongst others.

I have a friend who went to see her live... apparently shame
is now her favourite ever polly-jean song. I have SFTCSFTS
and is this desire, both of which are staggeringly good. In
short, i'm hyped about this too. :D

another person on pjharvey.net mailinglist..

I hope she veers away from Stories.. - I love every album
she has made, except that one. I only listened to it about 3
times. it feels like Harvey trying to rock, while she rocked
already, all the fucking time.

funnily enough the b-sides of the Stories.. singles are much
better.

in an interview not lang after Stories.. came out she did
say she was moving away from that kind of album again.

is this desire is utter brilliance. Not a big fan of any of
her other stuff though

i really like her too, hope its a "return rorm form"
album... Stories from the city is nowhere near as good as
her other albums.

am i the only one who thought "stories from the city..." was
alright? whats wrong with song like kamikaze?

it's alright, which is the problem, all her other albums are
excelent. I do like some tracks though, Kamikaze is maybe my
favourite off the album, This Wicked Tongue and This is Love
are good too. The song with Thom York is crap, his voice can
be so annoying.

My brother and all his mates are really into her stuff, but
I don't see what's so good about it myself. Can anyone
recommend one standout release/track by her that I should
check out? Ta.

You're right, this is a good track. Like road movie music. I
can imagine this being on the Paris, Texas soundtrack. A
sort of more positive Contino Sessions era DIV feel too...

it's okay, but it sounds too much like what she has done
already.

Stories.. is too much of a crowdpleaser, which can be seen
in her sudden rise in popularity - good reviews in even the
shittiest popmagazines. the songs are too clean etc.
same kind of thing happened with eels' last album.

I must say I did like "one line".

Stories... is her most "commercial" record i guess, but it's
the first of hers i heard, so it's kinda got a place in my
heart anyway. I don't know how anyone could dislike "horses
in my dreams" though.

aaah.. that explains a lot.

a lot can hang from which record you hear first, certainly
in Harvey's case.

i agree partially...but i don't really have problems with
commercial music (except for radiohead ofcourse)

I do when I can clearly hear the difference with her older
records, as in: the songs are better.

that might be the case with me too. i listened to her music
since i can remember, but first album i bought was "is this
desire"

"is this desire" (which is my favourite, btw) was the big
turningpoint, I think.

it was the most radical change in sound, using electronics
and samples.

she probably picked that up from tricky, who's "angels with
dirty faces" was the reason i picked up "is this desire"

she's my favorite musician -- and i love stories to bits.
and those b sides ARE definitely incredible -- i think
"memphis" is one of the best songs she's ever done. the
album has a great flow, and in my opinion it shows how
multidimensional she is as a song writer. though i'm not
too keen on "this mess we're in," that's still only one skip
for me through the whole album. i can't really pick a
favorite of her records though because it really depends on
my mood.
