Big Screen Projection

I've seen a number of cheap and supposedly easy to make
projection devices that can be used with monitors and/or TVs
on ebay. Whilst the feedback generally seems to be very
good, I'm highly sceptical about this sort of thing. Just
wondering if anyone here has any experience of
them/specifics of how they work etc.

Cheers.

I looked into this a couple of years back. (Sorry I've
since formatted my HD and so my research is gone.) I
remember finding a link that described bascially how it is
done. It requires that you place your monitor upside down
to get it to work. This apparently isn't very good for the
monitor's life. I'm skeptical myself.

I never tried it though.

Yes, putting monitor upside down (or on the side- for
vertical shooters on console) can bugger them up. This one
claims not to need that though (which doesn't sound
unreasonable- it's easy enough to flip images vertically
using lenses...)

Bump for the day folks. I've checked and double checked and
this claims to definately include both the lens needed and
instructions on how to make it.

There are loads on ebay, but
this is the one I'm looking at seems cheap and has
good feedback.

hmmm, almost sounds too good to be true. I have seen
supposed user feedback like that before and it has been
fake, but then again it is only 3 quid so what have you got
to loose.

It says they are only selling the plans and the lens, don't
buy it mate! The plans will just tell you what other kit
you will need, and chances are it will cost a bomb if you
can get the parts at all.

I know, but the buyer's feedback (actually on ebay- not
their quotes) says the other stuff really is simple o come
by/cheap- looking at examples, it looks like you just need
to build some sort of housing for the lens (a sort of
rectangular box with image going in one end, lens at the
other). The fact it's £3 is really tempting.

yeh I know it is tempting, the materials list does seem very
basic, I do not trust those images though, if they wanted to
prove that they were real they would have projected the
image onto a recognisable object don't you think?

If I were you I would contact the previous buyers directly
and ask if everything is kosher. Then again the buyers might
be fake! I know you are going to buy it anyway
aren’t you :)

I don't understand how the image would be boosted though.
Sure the lens could expand the image but even with your
monitor brightness on full I find it hard to believe that
those demo images are real. Do you know if this unit has a
power supply or not?

Yes- that's why I have reservations- even a proper projector
needs the lights to be dimmed. I don't see how the image
size can be increased by about 1000% without losing
luminosity? From what I can gather this thing doesn't have a
power cable.

Please explain?

Just buy it, put yourself out of your misery, it is only 3
quid, if it turns out to be fake then I will give you 50%
back. If it is real then I will buy one myself!

I'll order it at the weekend with a view to building it
before the end of the month. I'll let you know how I get on
:)

so we have a deal then :) That page said it should only
take about 1 hour once you have al the bits. Mind you I bet
tinkering time will be over 24 hours.

Damn! I might have to buy this myself - Just to take a
chance...

To be honest, I've no idea how a low powered TV/monitor is
supposed to light up an entire wall!?!?! Just doesn't make
sense - Normally you'd need a high powered bulb behind
something like this.

Energy in = energy out

Still, only £3!
