When I worked as a labourer a few of the guys were proper
alcoholics. My dad noticed the same thing when he was a
builder. Seems funny (as in strange) that it's tolerated in
manual jobs where there's a real capacity to physically hurt
people (yourself included) through misuse of tools/whatever
while drunk, yet in office jobs it's frowned upon and people
tend to hide it a lot more (ie not having cans during tea
break/lunch etc.).

Fun Fact: Men and women are not the same;
extensive research has shown that the higher up the
corporate ladder you go, the more likely women encountered
are to be alcoholics. On the other hand, the likelihood of a
man being an alcoholic bears no correlation to his job title
(although naturally, it does relate to whether he is
employed or not...).
