I made a big mistake today - bought Japan - Gentlemen Take
Polaroids, which is copy protected with cactus data shield
200.

Goddamn thing is giving me fits.

I figured, these copy protection schemes are usually
bullshit. Well this one is formidable.

I can get the tracks to rip with EAC after I extract the
audio session with CloneCD, but there are some pops and
clicks here and there.

Suggestions?

i suggest going to volume control (if you have XP) and
setting your recording device to Stereo Mix (this will
record any sound being made by the computer at all). then
use a wav recorder like goldwave or something and just play
the cd and record. it will take as long as it takes to
listen to the cd, though.

i don't know if that'll work, but that's my suggestion.

try ripping at 1x, if that's possible.

btw, you can return the disc for a refund.. they'll give you
your money back. the more people that do this, the quicker
these schemes will die.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna return it. I read that the fake
errors they put on the disk are multiplied by real errors as
the disk wears, making it unplayable even on a stereo. Shits
to that.

I feel so fucking burnt and helpless! They reamed me good.

copy protection is evil. the greatest joy of controlling
your digital audio is making the mixed cd.
