Do you think this guy is being unfairly persecuted for copyright violation?
Do you think the tracks are good?
Is this a good example of sampling or not? By "good" I mean ethically AND quality-wise.

He knew what he was doing and what would happen.
Not particularly.
Not really and not really.

What is ethical sampling? Can you give an example?

In my opinion ethical sampling would be the use of a sample purely for artistic reasons. I personally think it ceases to be ethical the second you start to use the sample as a promotional tool. Also give credit where credit is due, and don't steal from those who can't afford it.
They are my personal shitty guidelines.

I think that Dangermouse was hoping for backlash to garner publicity, a dangerous mistake considering how well entertainment lawyers can turn a man with a steady job and a healthy hobby into a hobo.
In terms of the artistic merit of his sampling, I think the concept of challenging oneself with a pretty fuckin silly conceit like mixing only two album together is interesting as an exercise ONLY. It's not like only using two colors on a canvas. I think the tracks could stand as Beatles remixes but the Beatles are totally out of place backing up Jay-Z.
Long story short, this album is a stupid mashup.

it is very poorly produced.
it is an interesting concept but it was not excecuted very well. the sampling and sequencing is weak. the sound quality is awful.
