*POLL: Do you support....*

...the endeavors of other Xltronic community members? Like
for instance, say if someone in this community put out a
record - do you buy it, say you'll buy it, or just avoid
supporting it altogether? If they start some new site for
(insert function here) do you visit it?

Yes or no?

I personally try to, but being broke as I am, I can't do it
as much as I would like.

same here. when that label of yours was going under i'd
really wanted to buy some of your cd's but i just didn't
have the dough.

that's totally cool, man, at least your heart was in the
right place. that's why i love this place - it's a cozy
little community. Sure, we have our problems now and then -
and usually they get kicked the fuck out for a while or
forever. :D

i'd buy it if i'd like it...definitely.
was this the question? :)

Actually I haven't bought any of the other boardmembers
music.
I wanted to buy some of bix's (which I heard - but it was
never confirmed - was a previous member of the board) music,
but I was unable to get into contact with him.
I would buy from a boardmember, yes.
But I haven't done it yet.
I'm also not loaded with ¤'s, as I'm a student.
But it's always nice buying good music, so I do that as
ofthen as I can.

This potentially is the ideal set up, where you have people
with interests in, say, a certain area and attitude in
music, and where a lot of those people create their own as
well, ... so if everyone supported each other then you'd be
approaching some form of music based Utopia, which would be
nice. Sorry you wanted a Yes or No answer.

Yes.

It all depends on what I am supporting, etc... If it's a new
website or a piece of art or something, I'll check it out
(as it's not much work to click a link), and I always try to
listen to peoples tracks and give feedback, but as far as
buying members' music, I would have to really like it, and
of course have the dough. The only 2 people's music I've
liked enough to buy from XLT are Fat Kaimo's and Ochre's...
no offense to any of you other jammin fat cats :]

I haven't bought many members music but I download loads of
tracks by the artists here and will be doing something that
may help a few of them soon hopefully. I paid for that WATMM
CD but I don't seem to have that yet and I've moved house
since. I check back on quite a few zebox accounts and such.
I got a CD from Occasional Records and the dude behind that
posts here occasionally, he hasn't had anything new out
tho.

Oddio, I had no idea about your label. Is there a topic
where I can read up on this or something? That's such a
shame man.

YES, I have and will continue to support this site and all
artists that I enjoy on here. Since I found this site I
have bought more cd's and listened to more tracks from you
guys than I have from other commercial artists.

There are over 100 XLT artists here, I suggest you take the
time to listen and appreciate their music because a lot of
it is just as good (if not better) than anything you will
fing out there.

best to listen + comment on tracks that get posted as much
as i can. certainly i'm interested in buying their albums
if they are available. i won't name names, but i'm totally
into that. so i say, spam away. :)

ps - oddioblender-side project cd for $

if this group of people were to seriously unite because
moved by such a compelling force, it would have happened a
long time ago. There are plenty of people here to create
one of the worlds coolest and serious places for electronic

offline Clic on 2004-03-03 01:50 [#01097000]

If I enjoy what they do, yes. I would purchase a record if
it was something that I knew I would listen to more than
once or twice. It's only fair.

I would hate it if someone bought a release of mine just
because they're friends with me, etc. I want you to have it
because you genuinely enjoy it.

them are release quality. So YES, I would pay for tracks

Same as for other music. If it's good-yes. If it was bad,
I'd rather buy something else, than support a fellow
XLT-member just because he/she is that.

Depends whether I like the music and/or how well I know the
individual...

For example: I'd buy A 12" of Skeptopotamus' - Orust Cottage
in a second, even though I've hardly talked to him on the
board.

If it's a friend, I'll buy a copy unless the music isn't to
my taste. It still has to be decent, but I wouldn't demand
the same high standards I would when buying a comparative
stranger's stuff.

i think that i would def. be more likely to buy something
w/o hearing it having spoken to someone on this board

it makes you feel as though your supporting someone you
know

that feels good

as opposed to supporting, say, kool keith, who spends all
his record money on whores and booze

yes

it was a cd-r label i was on back in 2003. they closed due
to the owner having to re-evaluate his priorities - i had
two full-length albums released through them, that are now
discontinued.

any difference whether they were a board member or not,
unless they were a really good friend.

Yeah I relate to you on that one.

I prefer supporting good music by good people and I'll
gladly fund those I know will support the greater good in
this world. That is true beyond music even.

at first i forgot that i bought rarndaraki's band's album,
which is very good, btw. i might buy a hummer album.

if my options are "buy it," "don't buy it," or "avoid
supporting it," i can't produce a meaningful answer unless
you identify a specific recording. i can't imagine why
anyone would just buy any album that any member made just to
"support" the community.

i can't see how association with the community would make
any difference at all.

wouldn't you just give your music to your friends instead of
expecting them to give you money for it?
