I'm seriously considering buying one of these babies from
the States. I mean for £130 its a total bargain! The same
thing over here is like £300 minimum.

Is most of your setup hardware sequenced/controlled via midi
in Cubase?

It isn't very old- it looks a bit like the style of the
groovebox line...

buying

Minimoog Voyager

Alesis Ion

they're the only ones that catch my eye at the moment

It's one of those God awful Roland NameRape(tm) synths.
Leave the old model names alone, Mr Roland!

130USD is cheap though.

Paco,

Nah it ain't 130USD its 130 UK Sterling which = 250USD.

Ceri,

I've got some hardware, which is basically a Behringer
MIXER, Sony Minidisc and a Korg 05R/W sound module but its
ill though. So mainly I just use the Soundcard with Midi
Control Keyboard and do everything through Cubase VST using
the Soundcard plus VSTi.

i have one. you should well invest.
Its a bit of a bargain at 130 dollars i've gotta say as i
paid about 120 quid for it.
the basses are ace and some of the pads are beautiful....it
also has a handy "chord function" which i love.
also, it has some old 808, 909 and 606 drum sounds.....

ye'll love it.

you might also consider seeing how much you can pick up a
novation a or k station. i have both the sh32 and an A
station, and although i love the sh32, i get heaps better
sounds from the a station.

A station and K station are bassically the same thing except
the Kstation has a small keyboard, and i think is a little
less polyphonic than the a station.

anywho....something else to consider.

Big difference in price though as I can see it. The A
Station is about £200-300 more.

ah well, doesnt matter. worth looking at though. im sure you
will get just as much joy from the SH32. it is a real nice
synth.

why not just download the v-station? i heard it was better
anyways.
i really like the v-station

hepburnenthorpe,

The A Station basically is twice the price but looks bloody
good too and I've heard it superior also. I'm glad that
technology is better priced in the States.

I have the k-station.

got it 2 weeks ago. The price is going down (it was
discontinued... rumor is they stopped it, to make way s
k-station 2)

anyways, i think its hot as shit. the interface is sooo user
friendly. I havnt even opened the manual once, and I can
work my way around it like no problem.

WeaklingChild,

You do get a lot of power from a piece of hardware vs
straight up software emulations of hardware. Each piece of
hardware is like a PC in itself so there are benefits to
hardware over VSTi and software. That said I'm a massive
software advocate but I just figure for something so cheap
and similing so powerful its worth getting.

That Alesis Ion looks interesting - though one review said
it was skimpy on the low mids which made it sound thin.

I just bought an mks-80. It's wonderful, but it introduces a
whole new problem . I have to now buy a decent soundcard and
midi device if I want to route the synth back to my
computer. So that 's more money. I was thinking an m-audio
audiophile.

What you need, bogala, is the PG-80 programmer and the MKS
takes off to another level of fun.

Can you use the programming surface in realtime? That'd be
fun.

I imagine you can use any programmable control surface
though, right? I mean, the parameters respond to midi CCs,
not some weird proprietary thing, I would hope.
