These days Helge "Deathprod" Steen known from Supersilent and Motospsycho are releasing a four-disc box with his work over the last ten years. Expect lots of high quality droning, noisey ambient. On the label RuneGrammofon. I bet it's a killer.

Oh. Supersilent. It's more free jazz/impro.

fans of dark ambient had better hear "Morals and Dogma" or suffer the consequences...review, review... thick, foggy, sludge to wallow inside

I heard that album in the store and I agree with you. Unfortunately, the album scares me. It's just too depressing. Maybe I'll pick it up in a few months or during the winter.

I'd like to add that it's electronic free/improjazz. And they're (supersilent) more uptempo live, at least when I saw them at Blæst in Trondheim.

no actually it's quite sweet... and when someone fucking gets around to hearing it, they'll wonder why the fuck they didn't take my advice on this one sooner (which is not the kind of brash statement i would make about a good 85-90% of my recommendations)

Finally got around to buying this box-set today, in it's tops. I've been looking around for the Treetop Drive(Second Disc in this box) album for ages, but I've never found it. The Treetop Drive 3 is absolutely stunning in a SAW II-ish style. Highly recommended, and I'll give Supersilent some props too. Their shows are great.

Helge Sten aka Deathprod is welknown producer. He is the producer on most of the Rune Grammafon Releases. Great music! scary artic ambient - stylish!
Actually he is the only "musican" finishing the norwegian art school. Respect!

That is not correct. Kim Hiorthøy and Alexander Rishaug from Smalltown are also educated at the Art Academy here in Trondheim.
Vlari: Does Treetop Drive in the box have the original (and very cool) artwork?

Nope, just plain black digipak with a small graphic element in grey for all the cds. It's a shame they didn't reproduce the original artwork, cause that was beautiful. And now I regret not buying it when i had the chance even more... But I guess it stands more as a whole with the current design.

I should really like this stuff but I don't.
And Treetop Drive is awful.
I guess I'll have to listen to Morals and Dogma again..

A shame you don't like it. I had Treetop Drive in my walkman one day at school ( in 96, if my memory serves me right), and one girl in my class asked me what I was listening to. Instead of going into a lengthy explanation I handed over the headphones, and after ten seconds they were tossed back at me. She said she couldn't listen to it cause it sounded like bees having sex. So if you want, darius, I can hook you up with her...

Haha, great.
I usually like abstract music or whatever, but I thought this just wasn't interesting at all. Unpleasant sounds with a lot of reverb, meh.

i was for some reason surprised by how good this is. i was expecting good ambientness, but a lot of this is so well crafted and powerful it's silly. from the press mathing:
"Layers thicken, some congeal and sink as others thin and evaporate in glistening spray. Figures stalk through clouds; strange topographies form from molten matter then dissolve in crystalline streams; curious stories in remote languages cry out to be deciphered."
which is particularly true of tracks like towboat and all of morals and dogma, recommended A++.

mortsto-x: i know that kim hiorthøy is educated on same school, but in design not in music.
I didnt know Rishaug was a student at trondheim art school... H. Sten was anyway the first musican educated on trondheim art school...
Rishaug is great btw;)

It's melancholic and deep, somewhat harsh in feelings, not in attitude, not oppressive. I like it very much and I play it when I feel sad. It's a beautiful blacknuanced box by the way.
