because it won awards, you don't want to see it?

yes. cuz those people have no taste in movies.

indeed. that's because they only see the big movies. the
good movies are often born in the underground.

although: there ARE some good movies at the oscars and in
the mainstream as well.

the reason why lotr won awards is probably related to the
success of the film because of the fanatic fans. I hate
those books (read three paragraphs, and then I would have
fallen asleep if it weren't for TV..), but the movies are
quite entertaining, if not directly good.

I recommend you read all of Kafkas books.

(I'm consistent AND coherent. and this saturday, me and my
mates won a HUGE egg, three books, and some smaller eggs at
the pub-quiz at the academical bar. we won for the worst
joke. the score we had on the quiz was 18 of 94)

will this be all?

you'll have to wait and see.

ofcourse there are some good movies wining awards, but it's
silly how one film can take so many awards, when there were
thousadn's films made in the last year. you're certanly
right about why they got so many awards too.

i don't see how kafka fits into this tho...he's one of my
favourite writers, i love his stuff.

about the film winning so many awards: the jury are afraid
of the fans! haha!

It's silly that while Oscars are originally american,
english films aren't seen as foreign films. australian,
chinese, norwegian, german, polish, italian and so-forth
films are seen as foreign films, and can therefore only be
nominated in best foreign film.

Kafka: that would be my amazing consistency when
writing/talking. I just thought of it when it came to
reading. had to write it.

good job for LOTR... I think it;'s a great movie... if you
don't even see it just because it wins awards, that's
fucking stupid...

and I thought it was super stupid at first that a Canadian
film would be nominated for best foreign language film (it
won by the way I believe) but it was in French, so that's
understandable...

"if for anything, Murray should've won an oscar for
Rushmore."

Totally, better performance than LiT I thought.

was he? I probably shouldn't comment, but I will... I
haven't seen either Lost in Translation or Mystic River, but
from what I have seen frmo Mystic River Sean Penns
performance was better... shrug...

dianne keaton always dresses like that. it's her "thing."

::

pretty much a no-brainer Oscars this year with few
surprises. I think LOTR deserved everything it got though.

I thought all the Seabiscuit Nominations should have gone to
Big Fish instead.

definitrely... I mean, no one could touch LOTR on any of the
special effects, and sound type catagories... and best
director, well, even if you hate the story you have to
appreciate the job Peter Jackson did... amazing stuff... and
come on, it is the best picture! :)

just finished watching the rest of the show, which i
recorded last night..

comiserations to sir bill. he truly deserved recognition for
his performance.

i really felt bad for a lot of the great films+people
nominated who didnt win, since the hwole evening was
dominated by lord of the rings.

nearly all of lotr's awards were well deserved.. although i
would definitely take issue with their award for best song..
WHAT? it wasnt the strongest of the three film's themes.. it
certainly wasn't the strongest piece nominated. they had
already won best original score. the song plays over the
credits and is not a focal point of the movie (even though i
AM one of those people that sits through til the end.. a LOT
of cinemagoers dont).. belleville (in which the soundtrack
is very important) and a mighty wind (which i havent seen
but, again, the soundtrack is important) were far more
deserving of the best song catergory.

but in the end, the oscars are completely arbitrary. this
year, there have been a lot of great contenders.. other
years, there arent.
not only that, bu ti saw an interview with sir ian mackellan
recently in which he said that he felt bad because on the
occasions he was involved in voting for the academy award
winers - he hadn't even had a chance to see all the films
nominated.

in the end, everyone brings their bias+prejudice to the
ballots. its just an awards ceremony, its not the reason the
films get made + by and large this year's best films are
beyond comparison.

i did like sean penn's acceptance speech. the only person to
acknowledge his peers (including those NOT nominated in that
category) and the only one to point out that there is no
"best".

it was also fun to see the winner of best documentary
feature continuing michael moore's sentiment from last year
+ bringing a touch of reality to what is otherwise an
entirely surreal (even navel-gazing) evening.
i suppose thats the benefit, as a documentary maker, of
being someone who deals in the factal rather than the
fictitious.

...or the Oscar for Best Music (Score).

Howard Shore should be imprisoned for that dreadful score.

in general on the Lord of the Oscars, I think you should see
these as 11 oscars for the whole trilogy, not just RofK.

Essentially, LOTR is 9.5hrs of the best cinema ever created.

yeah, i agree that the best song category is kinda lame in
its nature but shit.

However, it is awsome that LOTR won it anyway, that way it
gets 11 wins, tying Titanic and Ben Hur. If Titanic
deserved 11 Oscars, the fucking Lord of The Rings deserves
at least that many.

yeh true.

11 oscars for 9+ hours of the best cinema ever created.

The number one thing that pisses me off about the Oscar
website is this:

The only thing i was looking for is the criteria that makes
up a winner for each category, the processes, and platforms
for an "Oscar" deserving film.

I found nothing but the "fashion" section and "fun and
games"

"fun and games" wtf is that?

even better, because LotR got all the nominated oscars,
while Ben Hur and Titanic both were nominated for even more
than they won.

There are no criteria. It is voted on by the academy. The
nominations are decided by vote by the people relating to a
specific category. then all academy members vote on the
films who get nominated for each category.

the academy is made up with a bunch of aging hollywood
jack-asses. but i think this year they got it right.
mostly. except for leaving out Big Fish but considering
Seabiscuit for so many nominations.

My guesses: Nemo takes best actor/actess, best director and
best supporting actress (the dumb fish). No awards for voice
acting though. Those will go to the guy talking in LOTR.
