i've been playing warcraft III. it's pretty cool.

dunno if it's considered a proper rpg though.

FFIX was weak. i mean...sure i played it all the way through
and enjoyed it...but it just doesn't stand up to any of the
others. not even a little bit.

I've only watched people play BGII at a friends house... but
KOTOR is more like Neverwinter Nights than BGII anyway....
at any rate, I'm LOVING KOTOR at the moment! :)

BGII is more complicated and challenging.... in fact my
opinion is that KOTOR is like BGII lite without trying to
diminish KOTOR or anything. Oh and the pseudo medieval
setting of BGII is a tiny wee bit less gay than the star
wars universe (not very much though).

whaaa? Part of the reason I like KOTOR so much is that I
think the Starwars universe is quite possibly the
coolest place to have an RPG... the Medieval thing
has been done to death by pretty much every RPG ever... And
SW Galaxies was such a dissapointment, I don't think KOTOR
could have come too soon! To be quite honest, if I had the
choice to be teleported into the SW Universe I would do so,
without a second thought.

Planescape: Torment

That game is probably the greatest RPG I have ever played in
my life. Not to mention the actual Dungeons and Dragons
role-playing setting Planescape is one of the most creative
things I've ever seen (give it up for the conceptual
illustrator Tony Diterlizzi).

Sadist: Final Fantasy 9 truly is the bomb. It redeemed my
love for the FF franchise, though now with the Square-Enix
merger I'm crossing my fingers.

If you find it on some emulator, Final Fantasy 6 is one of
the greatest stories I've ever played in an RPG.

But seriously, Planescape: Torment is the fucking shit! So
unique and creative than any other game out there. Let me
describe a bit of the premise to you:

You wake up in the Mortuary, dead. Your body is ridden with
scars, and from the looks of it, you've died a whole lot of
times. You're in Sigil, the self-proclaimed center of the
Multiverse, a city built on the inside of a giant ring that
floats above an Endless Spire. Your adventure, to find out
who you are, who you've been, and how to regain your
mortality (so you can finally die).

I am so willing to start a thread just to talk about how
awesome this game is.

The story in Torment is very well made and detailed but I
stopped playing it because most of the experience was
derived from dialogues and the battles were quite rare and a
bit easy... for some strange reason I now have the desire to
get back to it...

Let's not forget to mention that you're accompanied with a
floating skull and a robot Nordom whose voice is done by the
guy who does homer simpson.

Does anyone know a webshop that still sells this game?

The dude who played skinner in the x-files did the voice for
the gith that accompanied you in torment.

Arrgg, I'm stuck in KOTOR at the part where you fight the
last group of mandalorians with their mandalore boss guy on
Dantooine. He's too fucking strong, he does like 40 damage
per attack with his 2 swords combined, and has a shield that
no blasters or lightsabres can penetrate.. basically I have
to fight him with swords while his 5 friends shoot
constantly at us.. and its seriously ridiculous because he
kills me in 1-2 hits... How the hell am I supposed to beat
this?

Aight, I just used some shields and grenades, and finished
the job up close and personal with my lightsabres ;) That
was a BITCH though... took me like 8 tries.

Castle of the Winds Part 2: Lifthransir's Bane

heh, it might be a little old (© 1989-1992), but i've been
playing it a lot lately. part 1 is ok too (they are
basically the same game but in part 2 you start out right in
the "action"), and part 2 you are supposed to pay for, but
its so old i bet you can download it for free somewhere. :)

actually i'm not even sure if this is the kind of rpg you
are looking for, its sort of like diablo, except
"turn-based."

alright well the battle with Calo Nord on Kashyyyk makes the
Mandalorian one look fucking simple... It's bad enough that
by the time I even get through his shields he just heals
himself back to full.... bullshit.

Planescape torment!!! ITS GREAT!!!

So filled with philosophy, adventure, interesting
characters. Not all that elven bullshit "fetch me that ring,
get xp, nothing happens" crap. This game is filled to the
brink with creativity, style and the greatest story ever. The
only game ever that actually moved me, as a great movie
does.

Just get it
