Ok so my boyfriend comes on here alot and say's he always
find's the information he needs and so i was wondering if
you could help me this this.

I have been given this research assignment and i thought you
might all want to join in...i need to find out as many types
of digital connections as possible that can be used in the
music tec industry.., what equipment they can be found on,
who manufactures them and how do they work.

If anyone could offer me some information or perhaps some
links to websites that might help me i would greatly
appreciate it!

thanx guys!

but to find musical equipment with it on... try just
checking out the big
music-instrument-manufacturing-companies...

I think i noticed some digital turntable once, but I can't
remember which one it was, nor what the "digital" was
referring to.

do you only mean for music-making, or does it include hi-fi
and just listening-stuff?

Some more connections, I am not sure if they apply to music
devices though.

Serial (old input connection for mice/keyboard etc)

Parallel (old connection for printers etc)

PS/2 (More recent connection for mouse/keyboard)

of course, when there are turntables with digital outputs,
there must be mixers and things like that with digital
in/out as well. search around a bit.

is firewire or USB2 another connection than normal USB (of
course they are, but in connection with the assignment,
would it be "legal" to mention them along with USB?)

analogue to digital

*find info on 2 soundcard specs
*find info on 2 digital mixing desks
*name as many types of digital connections as possible
*what equipment can they be found on?
*who manufactures them?
*how do they work?

AAAAHHH!!!
i have until 12 to do this :(

he's not the only one.. but I thought he stopped making
music (there should probably be one of those smileys with
its tongue out here, but I HATE smileys). i also want a
regular analogue synth! they're fucking great!

right now, I'm waiting for my turntable (technics sl1210).
it may arrive today or tomorrow... i don't think that has
any digital outputs though.

just write the roland up for MIDI, but it has some other
digital output as well.. i just don't know what it is
called.

we have this digital mixer in our college next door, its a
mackie but i aint allowed touch it yet LOL
my college is pretty shit when it comes to the equipment and
they're tight fisted so they wont buy us the stuff we need
we aint got no hardware synths
no hardware samplers
no proper studios, you know with live room and sound
booth..
not enough room
AND NO MACS!!
we have to work on damn PC's running Microshite

not too bad working on a pc. more software.

the problem with not enough room is a familiar one. I'll
have to throw my computer out (it's old, and I haven't used
it for anything useful lately) when I get the turntable...

I'm planning on buying a zoom mrs1266 (or whatever)
portastudio, though.. running low on space.

i'll have to take another digression, as I was reminded of
something I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off...

I WANT A FUCKING HAMMOND-ORGAN!!!! It would be enough to
smell it!!!

back to business. you've got S/pdif and MIDI. The Line6
Guitarport uses USB to connect to the computer...

connections.. who makes them SO
USB
5 PIN DIN
co-ax
serial
parallel
ps/2
optical
sp/dif
USB2
firewire
EIA-J
Mini plug

AAAAHHHH brain overload

You have a mixture of interefaces and connectors in
there...which ones do you want? I have a feeling it is
interfaces and it was a poorly phrased question.

offline ecnadniarb on 2004-02-25 04:12 [#01088401]

Anyway:

S/P-DIF - Sony/Philips Digital Interface

Firewire - Invented by Apple and should be called IEEE1394
on non-Apple stuff.

MIDI - Was invented by a consortium of manfacturers in the
early 80's.

USB - A consortium headed by Intel.

The newer stanton decks feature digital out (basically you
plug them into the line in ports on your mixer as opposed to
phono ones).

why?

it is no use having digital outputs on a vinyl-player.. it
completely destroys the point of vinyl.

co-ax and optical is probably some army thing. you should
check us and uk army-websites...
