You ever hear a part in a new song you KNOW you've heard
before but cant remember where the hell you've heard it?

That happened to me tonight with Metamtic's song Remip Ear.
I dont even like Metamatics that much, but something about
the begging of this song seemed so fimilar... so i've spent
the last two hours searching through my massive full album
folder and I FINALLY found what I was looking for... The
begging of Remip Ear is almost exactly the same riff as the
begging of Global Goon's "!".

Such a relief to have found it ;p

music nowadays.

as being unique and innovative than there ever was before.

I agree... I've never been more happy with the quality and
quanity of new music that comes into my life as I am today.
Specifically with IDM, people say it's turning to shite and
lacking original concepts... I feel the exact opposite, it's
expanding more and more and incorporating new ideas more
often then not... just my 2 cents

then you should listen to more music. you will notice the
same chord-progressions in an EXTREMELY large amount of the
music out there.

older stuff.

listen to older stuff. old blues and jazz.

nevermind mtv (except for sometimes late at night when they
play aphex and squarepusher and stuff...).

I dont know if its humanly possible to listen to more music
then I do ;p

With convental music, I'd agree with you completely, but IDM
(when are we going find a better name already?) has so many
different ideas all copulating in one genre, even sometimes
within one album.

yeah?

i think people are taking that stuff to a whole nother level
nowadays.

they mightve started it, but that doesnt mean they perfected
it

yes, IDM and modern Jazz are two of the most innovative
genres around nowadays. but when you actually noticed a
re-used progression in an IDM-song..?

you gotta dig for good stuff, even back then.

have you listened to any of the crap 1950's stuff?

there was just as much crap porportionately as there is
now... only difference is the market is wider now.

nah. the difference is that they made it first. whenever
some song comes on nowadays, I keep thinking "damn! i've
heard this before!"

and that applies to lyrics as well.

therefore, I am sinking into exclusively listening to idm,
hip-hop, trip-hop, general electronica (not techno or house
or nan'a'dat), jazz and nu-jazz. This is bad, because all
music comes from good, and good comes from all music. I miss
out on lots of "good" because the "good" is boring!

even if its been done before, it gets better and better.

listen to mars volta, man!

sure, they have elements of jazz organ, funk, pink floyd,e
tc...

but the combination of sounds is new and unique.

everythign that can be done pretty much has.

but the inspiration to create keeps us from seeing the end
of art as we know it.

heh

well, music and dining both have movements to them.

the intro/appetiser, the verse/entree, the chorus/side dish,
and the climax (or ending)/desert

I always thought the appetiser and entree were the same
thing.

i'd hate to be mildly retarded. it has to be either
