something i just came accross.

dj danger mouse mixed Jay-Z's Black Album and The Beatles
White Album.

it's actually started a bit of contraversy over copyright
law and such.

you can download it here

I have just downloded tracks 'Moment of Clarity' and
'December 4th' , I like the December 4th instruments and
some of the lyrics, but I'm not to big on rap.

very digestable mainstream. nice
and recognizing the samples increases the fun

jon lennon fucking loved rap though.

maxwell was a thug and his silver hammer was his glock.

uh, i'm not really sure dj dangermouse should be able to
sell this, it's not really his music

He can't. That is the point, he was handed a cease and
desist order by EMI to stop distribution. As a result he
has just told everyone to download it via p2p and it has
been made available on some websites who are refusing to
accept the cease order.

Also it has created a much bigger buzz than it probably
deserves...although it's not bad.

i understand he can't, i'm saying even morally I would like
to stand up for the little guy but i'm not really sure he
has intellectual property rights here..

not only did they want him to stop making them, they wanted
the stores to destroy every copy already made

yeah it's not great. the sound quality is really mushy.
its an interesting concept but it could have been better
executed. it just sounds like he cut out a few loops and
squished in some jay-z. and his loop cutting/sequencing is
not impressive.

it's not about the money, it's about EMI trying to supress
music

Interesting...

Rap was hardly big during or before 1980.

Well the hiphop remix album is a major thing these days,
there are about 4 different versions of Jay-Z's Black Album.
I think the use of samples from the white album is nothing
more than a gimmik though...my understanding is that he has
just taken snare hits and stuff, not chunks of material and
constructed the album from that.

naw he's sampled beatles vox and guitars. its very
recognizable. but gimmiky i agree.

I've heard a few tracks. It sounds passable because I'm not
really sure what has been sampled from The Beatles and what
hasn't..

To be honest, this needs a few things:
Better production
Equal inclusion of samples from each source
and
To be done once using choice cuts from either album

probably not just emi.. i doubt paul mcfuckingcartney* is
happy about it either.

*i only say that because i think it was a bit cuntish of him
to rewrite the beatles inlays to read "mcartney & lennon"
instead of "lennon & mcartney" on the writing credits.
seems rather bitter to me.

I downloaded it as well. it made me realise how bad jay-z is
if nothing else. Why couldn't Dangermouse have done it with
my all time hip-hop-hero and unofficial king of bling, Slick
Rick?

because he needed to mix a black and white album.

he shouldve done metallicas black album and beatles white
album
