Grey Album (Beatles vs Jay-Z)

I know there's already been a topic or two about this, but
today is Grey Tuesday. Several websites announced plans to
host DJ Dangermouse's The Grey Album (including
downhillbattle.org). They received an email from EMI containing
a cease and desist demand. The response from downhill.org can
be found here. Grey Tuesday is about more than
just downloading an album, it's about changing the way the
music industry works.

Cheers.

downhill battle is a really cool site... i'm not sure how
they arrived at the conclusion that they can get away with
sharing that album, but i think it's cool that they're
trying...

yeah, i got one of the tracks from there a week or so ago...
but, i wasn't impressed by it.

now i'm kinda curious. like, maybe i got the only dud on
the whole album.

I guess now a days there are quite to be CD's (especially in
rap/hip hop) that have only a few solid tracks with
playability. I'm sure that perhaps 50% of the tracks will be
good. I never listen to a rap album and expect to be blown
away. Chances are that there are a few gems and the rest is
coal.

Just my .02

I got dirt off your shoulder first and liked it... not worth
all the huge hype tho.

i've never been a jay-z fan at all, so i'm not expecting
much.

but, this album is getting a schload of hype, so i d/l'ed
one of the tracks, and it was about as good as i expected it
to be (read: not very), but it's a really cool concept.

Not great. The mixes are all predictable and uninteresting,
totally lacks the soul and zaniness of the source material.
Granted it's a different feel, and an inferior one. But it
was an interesting idea and I think they at least did the
White Album justice, it's not bad by any means, and I
expected worse. The tracks that used Gently Weeps and Long
Long Long were the best.
