Anyone know? I've probably heard it millions of times but couldn't out a name to it. Is it what our magazines in the UK call "Drill n Bass"?

I'm not particularly fond of it, either. It seems to go hand in hand with 'Happy Hardcore'. Not my cup of tea, anyway.

I'd read in one of the articles that RDJ was fond of it and was wondrin if one could describe any of his music as such.
Why Gabba? I understand the roots of the terms: Jungle and Techno and acid and Rave etc etc etc but not Gabba.

Gabba is happyhardcore without the happy as it should be, but it is not happyhardcore as gabba came first from germany. gabba is german for rock, and asa everyone knows gabba started off with heavymetal drum breaks at 200bpm+ as it's theme. hope this helps.

gabber-techno is Dutch/Belgian circa 1994
It is dance music with repetitive ultra-fast bassline @ 180 bpm+
and became popular in response to the commercialism of club-culture in the 90's. dance-fans decided this type of hardcore would drive out the hangers-on.
The bad thing was the music was shit.
The good thing? everyone was committed to being happy and not just their own 'image'.
(although many needed amphetamines to keep up!)

gabber is definately dutch. i can't stand it, but that's largely due to the fact that i prefer listening to music instead of dancing to it.
and also back in school in the mid nineties the people who were fans ("gabbers") were complete idiots, pills etc.
btw, gabber means 'friend' in dutch.
early aphex twin reminds me a lot of it.

Never hear any good gabba music. V. fast usually.
The most intelligent people I know do pills, have their own arguments to justify their actions. Talking proper academics.
