why did the simpsons start sucking

I have loved the simpsons since season 1. But it has
sucked for years now. I think the "jumping the shark" was
when Maude Flanders died. I decided to watch a new episode
for about the first time in two years tonight. It was
awful!!

I laughed maybe once, back in 1994-1998 I would laugh
throughout the whole episode. I'm ready for the series to
end.

actually, ive heard that in 2006 the series will end and
they will make a movie, where theyre all grown up. i dont
have any proof of any of this, but from what ive heard its
going to be something akin to "the simspons: bigger, longer,
and uncut." but this is only what ive heard from a friend,
so as i said, no actual proof.

oh that's good.

They're bringing Family Guy (and I read somewhere a movie
too) back next year.

Maybe it can fill the hole of a Simpsonsless nation.

Simpsons started to suck since 1/2 through season 8

That was 7.5 years ago.

AnimeBoi, who has watched since day 1.

the simpsons was good?
actually, i think its sucked since season five. it relies on
homer and his being an idiot as well as guest stars now, and
i haven't laughed once since watching the episode where
homer gets high. and that episode itself was an oasis amid a
desert of unfunniness.
the simpsons just doesn't do anything for me. its certainly
not "cutting edge", and the jokes are all stale. for funny
animation, south park is really all there is on television,
and that show has been pushing boundaries for years.
futurama was pretty good though, which is precisely why it
was cancelled.

I'm not sure which episodes are in which series but yeah,
over the past few years The Simpsons has been drained of all
the charm, wit and neat little touches that made the older
episodes so great. Sad.

simpson's movie info here

i agree the show has been sucky for quite some time. there
is usually a couple funny bits but other than that, pretty
dull.

i still watch it though..

2006? Christ. Shouldve ended a long time ago. They have
run out of ideas, quite simply. They had a great run of
consistently funny shows for years, but now its time to
gracefully retire the franchise.

futurama was great, that should be brought back.. and hooray
for Family guy coming back, that show is pretty hilarious.

as for the simpsons, I agree that show has definately seen
better days and is ready for the axe

they should have made the simpsons: hit and run cel shaded,
not doing so makes the game suck total asshat. Nevermind
that I haven't even played it. The mere fact that they now
can make celshaded games with ease and made a CARTOON
franchise into a game by using the standard of bland
polygons.... Pitiful.

i dont even know what the new episodes are. here in the uk,
if youre not watching satellite/cable you get a mix of
new(ish) and old episodes in any old random order.
a lot of the (i assume) more recent ones are very funny. but
i dont have much of a timeline perspective.
but am i the only one that thinks that (in hindsight) the
earliest simpsons were pretty weak. they focused to intently
on moralistic family tales. were not surreal enough +
lackedany truly funny jokes. they were more "amusing" than
anything else. homers voice had not been perfected + the
animation was pretty shoddy due to its budget.
to be honest, i find the writing in nearly all american
comedy series very inconsistent. largely because of their
production line writing style. in the uk, a small group of
people will develop an idea for a show+write the entire
series themselves. in america, studios assign teams of
writers to brainstormshows, all throwing in their 2cents
worth of gags (something the simpsons made fun of in the
episode where granpa starts writing for + the episode where
homer voices poochy the dog in itchy+scratchy)

I hear you about the really old episodes.. they were kinda
funny, but the animation and characters were FAR from
perfect... homer and marge both needed to be perfected..

and all the other characters needed to be
introduced+developed properly.

What a load of shit!! Who gives a fuck is the animation is
crap, it's the humour I'm after (just look at Home Videos,
is that what it's called? They haven't shown it hear for a
while).. and those moralistic/family values episodes died
right down very early in the show's history.

acrid, I've come to expect better from you

i didnt mean visually developed. i meant their character.
the animation thing was a throwaway criticism.
i agree that the humour is the most important thing. but
most of that humour is reliant on well developed
characters.
i know the family values stuff died down early. which is why
i was saying those early episodes were amongst my least
favourite.

please continue to have high expectations of me. i'll try
and make my points clearer next time.

if the bbc weren't such fucking cheapskates and persistantly
showed the same episodes i don't think i would've got sick
of it. but its a tired format now i think. its still good
once in a while but not everyday. what makes me laugh is the
bbc have now lost thr rights to the boat race. im looking
forward to grandstand showing pro-celebrity international
catch in its place.

It's definitely a shell of its former self, and that movie
is probably going to be the final nail in the coffin. That
thing is going to be a decade late.
