starting now i'm going to try to write only non-4/4 songs
as long as i possibly can. i think if everyone started
doing the same thing it would cause mass hysteria and chaos

very nice track, the melodies were great, altho at parts the
song was a big shrill so i had to turn it down a bit. all in
all great track tho. and yes, down with 4/4 indeed! all my
recent songs have also been really weird time sigs (mostly
mixing like a 5/4 melody with two drum tracks, one 7/8 and
one 9/8 or silly things like that)

9/8 can be a sick drum loop when repeated correctly for a
mass amount of times.

using non 4/4 rhythms is a cop out... you're basically
saying "Ok, so I can't be creative in any other way, so I'm
going to do the easy thing and use a fucked up time
signature, and then everyone will think I'm hardcore!"...

this is nice. my favorite track of yours is in 5/4 as well.

the whole time signature thing is a bit cliche though. (this
isn't directed at you kochlear) if you can use non 4/4 (or
even 3/4 or 5/4) and make it work then go for it. i just
think when people fuss over it it's silly.

i usually change the time sig if I just feel like it.
Sometimes I feel stuck in 4/4 and I want to break out a bit.

I like your melodies Kochlear. Big thumbs up 4 your
melodies. You use easy and emotive melodies. I hope this
track will be better than your last track 'cause although it
had a strong melody it became quite repetative and certain
elements were OTT.

this music felt like 4/4 to me... what beat is it? I mean it
keeps the same tempo, and the base-notes are all the same
all the time. And they sortof set the tempo, don't they?

= the keep the same rhythm. And they are very 4/4

maybe what I'm thinking about is just that it's a very
structered song in x/4 (where x is not 4, but 5).
Writing unstructured (non-tempo) songs should be your next
challenge! non-tempo = there is no beat, just sounds (or
keys) floating into eachother. It's like nature.
Wild and unorganized.
So it's hard, to recreate...

I mean feelings seem to be built through repetition (even if
music is just repetitive in the way that it e.g. has a x/4
beat - or any other structure that can be found).
Any person who make music digitally therefor limits himself
right from the begining by the number of bits or whatever
they're called. So true unstructured music can only be
analogue.

no i get what you mean. i think you're thinking of shifting
time signature. where, instead of doing any time signature
but keeping it the same the whole song, you keep changing
the number of beats before something loops. the only band i
know of who has successfully pulled this off is dream
theater though.

and your concept of doing a non-tempo song is intriguing,
but tons of people have already done that. i actually would
be bored not only making that, but listening to it as well.
i'll do stuff without beats occasionally, but it will still
have a recognizable tempo.
