LP5 - EP7

For those who still doubt that EP7 is the ep corresponding
to LP5 (and not to Confield), here are some facts that may
convince you :

1) both are entitled "Format+Number"
2) both have to editions : one pretty classic and one in a
frosted jewel case : black for LP5 and white for EP7
3) both have a hidden track : at the end for LP5 and before
track 1 for EP7
4) both have 11 tracks (+one)
5) both have same type of bleep sounds
6) both CDs have hardly nothing printed on them

If you see others similitudes, let me know. For instance
there's reality a sentence at the end of "Melve" on LP5, i
wonder if there is one on EP7, etc...

they are both by autechre
they were both released on warp

I read somewhere (probably on this site) that ep7 is just a
collection of tracks that didnt make the cut onto LP5.
Besides, who would dispute this? They've always released
Album/sub album ever since Incunabula/Bass Cadet...

what can we expect as draft's sub-album? or was the gescom
ep that?

I meant "some similitudes that don't correspond to other
autechre albums" =)

Confield have no ep. Gantz Graf is the ep of Draft 7:30
(just see the style of the letters on both releases, and
also the sound !).

gantz graf is the ep for confield, the reason for the delay
was the work on the dvd

Points: 2519 Status: Lurker | Followup to Combo: #01083864

yeah, and still that's not right. Gantz Graf was finished
even before they'd finished Confield. They only had to
struggle with that dvd thing before they could release it.

And those similarities between EP7 and LP5 are pretty
obvious, yet stupid: look at that second. The 'normal
jewelcase' is just a reprint as the original was out of
print. and the fifth, 'the same type of bleeps'..... >> are
you kidding me??

I think gantz graf is closer to draft

offline Combo from Sex on 2004-02-22 02:04 [#01083868]

No it's linked to draft 7:30. If you have all Autechre
albums, compare the artworks, the types of letters on them,
etc...
you'll se that gantz graf is linked to draft7:30

i think it's pretty stand-alone... i can't compare gantz
graf with any other release... it's .... different.

Compare the CDs :
http://xltronic.com/disco/release.php?release=159
and
http://xltronic.com/disco/release.php?release=922
There is no hesitation.

that nicely links into my theory that the companion pieces
are hints as to where the next album will go.

as for the design that obviously links it to draft but that
owes more to the timeframe of the release of gantz graf

artwork is often times completed only after the finished
recording is handed to the label and mastered (unless the
artist designed it themselves, as they did NOT on gantz
graf). artwork and sound have nothing to do with anything.

this topic isnt really even worth debaing, considering its
well known that ep7 and lp5 go together, i mean... DUH!

and of course anvil vapre/garbage goes with tri rep, perhaps
peel sess 1 & chiastic goes with envane & cichlisuite, ep7 &
peel sess 2 go with lp5, blah blah...

of course, but i have met people on slsk that thought EP7
was linked to Confield so i wanted to make things clear...

all they have to do is go to warp and look at the release
order.

yes in my opinion too
eps are where autechre test their new directions for new
album

(excluding bass cadet maybe abd some other)

I don't think Gantz Graf was connected to Draft...if
anything it is the final/first few tracks of Confield.
Erronous' comments would make perfect sense to me about the
timing. Draft went towards a more crunchy analogue sound
which was nowhere to be seen on Gantz.

But I dunno if there are any really concious links made by
Sean and Rob between the EP's and the albums anyway. I just
think they are a reflextion of their taste at that time.
And given the massive shift they have made in sound over
time, it is more apparent than it would be with other
artists.

Gantz Graf is definatly the ep for Confield.. Like i said
earlier, the trend has been to release album THEN ep for
that album. Beisdes, the crispness of the sound is much
closer to confield then the saturated mono feeling of
Draft...

They might not be doing the EP album sequence as much now.
Perhaps they didn't have as many extra tracks lying around
after Confield and Draft. Both albums sound like they took
a lot of Meticulous work, more so than earlier releases.
Gantz Graf sounds like a standalone to me. It is similar in
the respect that it shows where they are at as musicians but
the approach is completely unique imo.

Gantz Graf is more of a maxi-single than an EP though
really.
