I'm not very experienced with their stuff, but I want to
start buying some... I own Incunabula, but that's it... what
should I go for next?

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:32 [#00061599]

Neither am I, I have the same dilemma. I think they're
overrated, but we'll see... I know some good songs, but I
don't know what albums to get.

JOB from St.John\\\\\\'s Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:33 [#00061603]

funk and op i pick,ed up tri-repetae in Toronto and its
pretty good. Their peel cds r good 2.

I also have the s/t, which wuz my first purchase.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:35 [#00061604]

I heard Confield was REALLY inaccessible... hmm...
Imagine, this thread is 100% Maritimes!

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:36 [#00061606]

I think Incunabula is pretty awesome... a few of the songs
sound dated, but overall it's good stuff... I downloaded the
song Rae from LP5 is it? Anyways, that's a cool song... I
think I might just work my way up and get Amber and Tri
Repetae first...

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-17 03:37 [#00061609]

I think Autechre sucks.

There are about 2 tracks I liked (Rae being one of them) of
about 50 I've heard

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:40 [#00061612]

Yeah, Rae is by far my fave...

They ARE disapointing... hmm... people act like they're
God's gift to sound...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 04:04 [#00061654]

I want to check them out though... maybe I'll just download
some stuff, and then decide...

JOB from St.JohnNewfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 04:05 [#00061656]

It baffles me that people who are into technology enough to
be on the computer all the time, and into complex
interesting music enough to frequently post messages on a
site for aphex twin cannot appreciate autechre. Song 4 on
chichlisuite is spectacular to say the least. I have to
appreciate the subjective nature of musical taste, but the
fact is music like autechre (lp5,ep7,chichlisuite) is more
far more detailed and intelligently constructed. I think I
know what's happening here... popular artists who make
stale boring 4/4 beats PAY lots of people like you to post
messages in various messageboards praising boring 4/4 music
and trashing anything that is so unique and original that it
could give the popular 4/4 beat makers competition. It's a
good evil scam, I have to admit.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-17 04:49 [#00061701]

"Song 4 on chichlisuite"

give me a few more tracks, I'll give them all a listen and
give Ae a chance to prove themselves.

m on 2001-12-17 05:00 [#00061707]

I have the actual cd's and don't know about the quality of
the tracks from wherever you get them, but the sound is very
intricate and those 30 second samples from say, cdnow.com do
it no justice.

song 2 on lp5 (very heavy use of panning so use headphones
or a good sound system with seperated speakers)

really actually any song on lp5 or ep7.
try:
ep7: song 1 (very good) 4 and 7
lp5: 1,2,3,5,8...
chichlisuite: 4,5
tri repetae has nearly equally interesting sound, but the
patterns are way more loopy and "accessable" by normal music
listeners.

PERCEPTOR from North Liberty, Iowa on 2001-12-17 05:07 [#00061713]

funkmaster,

Ae is worth checking into. I own all the albums and many of
their singles. I've never really thought of them as
overated. all of the major electronic artists to have
different styles that are they're own. richard seems to
have the widest range of personality and sound, while
squarepusher has his jazz backround and a sound that relies
heavily on speed. autechre with mechanical and some say
mathematical beats also have the ability to merge that with
and underlying dark atmosphere. a lot of people here seem
to like squarepusher and bogdan. personally I can't really
get into pusher(exception of hard normal daddy) or bogdan.
I like stuff like proem, phonem, while, syndrone, and
biosphere. even if one doesn't care for Ae he sound give
them credit for taking an interesting turn with confield.
usually it seems like artists start out with a strong sense
of artist integrity and later deviate from the that path
taking a more commerical route(come to daddy). here it
seems that Ae decided to step further into uncharted waters.
oh and Ae's amber may not be their most complicated album
but imo its still the best.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 05:48 [#00061725]

I now have all of LP5, and Amber on my computer... I'm
listening to Amber now and I like it... I like the more
synthy music best with Aphex Twin, and I'm thinking it's
gonna be that way with Autechre...

zmalloc from urf on 2001-12-17 05:51 [#00061730]

ep7 and chiastic slide are really nice.

Korben Dallas from www.mp3.com/polcXd on 2001-12-17 06:54 [#00061735]

sorry don't have time to read all the posts - but um .. yeah
.. to me LP5/EP7(more so) chichli, perhaps envane are the
pinacle in my opinion. ALtho their older stuff is nice also
- if you have incunabula - you may as well buy stuff
chronologically --> they have a nice progression .. I don't
really think much of their stuff is bad as such -

? hope this is of any help - just an opiniontho

beetlebum on 2001-12-17 10:36 [#00061748]

buy Tri Repetae ++
its fucking wicked

Archrival on 2001-12-17 10:46 [#00061749]

LP5 is their best.

teapot | xanpha from brisbane on 2001-12-17 11:44 [#00061768]

and im hardcore... email me if you want something in
particular

teapot | xanpha from brisbane on 2001-12-17 11:45 [#00061769]

oh and if you wanna download Ae go too http://mp3.hurley.nu
has a whole stack of it... but of course buy the CD'S!

taxiderm from vancouver, bc on 2001-12-17 12:03 [#00061772]

I don't think autechre is overated. They just take some
getting used to. Check out lp5 first (as it is their most
listener friendly of their new releases), then go for ep7,
then chiastic slide, then cichle suite, then confield. Then
if you feel like it , go for their earlier works (if you are
like me, you eventually start kicking yourself if you do it
the other way around).

Loogie from UK on 2001-12-17 15:50 [#00061795]

Glad I'm not the only one who's uncertain with Autechre.
They get a hell of a lot of praise, but...
I bought Confield after reading the comments here and I was
really disappointed.

BUT someone also recommended Anvil Vapre and I really like
that...
I also have Peel Session and Basscadet and Gescom Keynell.

There SO MUCH other stuff out there so what's good and
what's not?

Gonzola from stockholm on 2001-12-17 16:07 [#00061800]

i like most of their stuff, especially envane ep, chiastic
slide and confield

ggloom on 2001-12-17 16:38 [#00061809]

track 5 "bine" from confield...how could anyone in their
right mind think little of this track>!>!>!> compare it to
99% of all these warp artists...beats the living fuck out of
their laptops

hevquip from 45.697 bits of electricity on 2001-12-17 16:44 [#00061811]

check out their gescom guise as well-SKAM have reissued the
key nell 12 on cd-and theirs some hidden gems on the
skampler cd (see warpmart).
man i cant believe you guys aren't already knee deep in
their stuff!!

my top five..

keynell-ae mix (ltd 12 on warp)

conform-fuck what people say about being inaccessable all
you near is a pair of ears.

flutter-off anti ep, preprogrammed beats that dont repeat,
with a lush fade out that beats having dinner with jesus

amber-sounds a little dated now but still class-their are
genes in 'teartear' that ruminate throughout the rest of
their catalogue

chiastic slide-fucked up crazy industro electro

envane-hip hop funk with dr octagon on the decks scratchin
like a bear.

by the by all of their eps on cd are value for
money-45-50mins of genius for a fiver depending on where you
shop..
