Mutant Death Pengwin from Medicine Hat on 2001-12-17 03:17 [#00061581]

i think this is one of aphex twins best tracks. i like the
first minute the best. the melody is so far beyond
fantastic. with the build from the rain and thunder makes
so emotional. this track is beyond music. it is beyond
art.
this track truly show aphex twins genius. i love how
emotional the first minute is. i wonder if aphex meant for
that, or it just worked out that way.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:20 [#00061585]

yeah you know, I wonder sometimes if he actually rights his
songs with a lot of feelings, or if he just puts some notes
together to create a nice melody... I guess it doesn't
matter...

Mutant Death Pengwin from Medicine Hat on 2001-12-17 03:22 [#00061586]

drukqs is an incredibly sterile album. by that i mean it
has no emotion. i really doubt there was emotion intended
in on, that it just worked out that way.
but thats just what i think, i could be wrong... hopefully i
am.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:25 [#00061590]

I suppose it doesn't really matter what he intended, as long
as we get something out of it... but it does seem like he
writes his music for good reasons... but that he chooses the
songs for albums for maybe not so good reasons... like with
Drukqs, I'm sure he probably wrote the songs with good
intentions, but maybe he did choose the particular songs for
the album just to satisfy his Warp contract... who knows...

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-17 03:29 [#00061595]

"drukqs...has no emotion"

I definately disagree...

At first I would have agreed with you, but as I got more
into Aphex Twin I found that some of the harder Aphex tracks
really do have emotional parts. I used to only like the
happy melody aphex but now my horizons have definately
expanded. Not just in AT but in a lot of other electronic
music especially squarepusher. Some of the abrasive stuff
holds hidden beauty if you know what I mean.

Vordhosbn, Omgyja Switch, Cock/Ver10, 54 Cymru beats, all
have emotional parts, to me, in them.

I guess a song affecting you is a personal thing. I think
it depends on your life, how much you have listened to
something, and what kind of person you are...btw don't get
me wrong I love 'on'. It's one of my favorite tracks

beskhu3epnm is like the song that is played to end your
life.

Mutant Death Pengwin from Medicine Hat on 2001-12-17 03:41 [#00061615]

about drukqs and what i think.
i think that he intentionally made every song sterile on
purpose. he did this with much skill and purpose. he also
did this to say "fuck you!" to warp, see as it is his last
album with them; he said in an interview he is glad he is
done with warp.

about on:
i think that the important thing about on is the fact it
evokes the great emotions it does. the fact that richard
did or did not intend that, is completely irrelevant.
on probably stirs something in the subconscience that makes
you feel the emotions.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-17 03:42 [#00061617]

"beskhu3epnm" is deep. good call

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:42 [#00061618]

Vordhosbn moves me in a way that I didn't think possible
from such a hectic track...

bumblefuk on 2001-12-17 03:46 [#00061627]

I agree with the Mutant that Drukqs is rather sterile
compared to the very emotionally rich work of his past
stuff. a lot of the faster tracks are the most emotionally
neutral tracks he has released. a lot of the more
potentially emotion tracks seem half finished. i'm sorry to
say that the plain piano tracks must go over my head because
they still sound amateur... cd 2, track 4 is a nice dirge,
but uncomplet, with then goes into the utterly bland
Meltphace. It lacks the conflict and beauty of"Evereyday" ,
"4" and "Girl/Boy", the over the top fun of "Milkman
"Children Talking",", "Come to Daddy", and "Windowlicker".
i hope that is really true, that he is saaving some killer
stuff for his next phase, but that is b.s. that people keep
claiming Richard tried to put out a bad record on purpose to
fuck Warp... he has pride.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:46 [#00061629]

and really, how can a listener tell if the composer wrote
the particular piece of music with emotion or not? Whether
or not it evokes emotion in the listener doesn't have
anything to do with it... The composer could just have
different views on what is touching, on what is emotional
and stuff... I've always found it annoying how reviewers
judge a piece of music and say that it's "Emotionless" or
something... how the hell do you know... all that matters is
whether or not it effects you personally...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:48 [#00061632]

but if it doesn't effect you personally, that doesn't mean
it has no emotion in it...

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-17 03:48 [#00061633]

Well an exception to my rule:
I don't think Quoth could possibly affect anyone emotionally
in any way.

Mutant Death Pengwin from Medicine Hat on 2001-12-17 03:50 [#00061634]

but you are right.
each song can evoke different emotions in each person. i,
pesonally, find that every track on drukqs to be sterile and
without emotion-- but to that i find genius in it all.
every track on drukqs i enjoy very much, as i play the album
very often.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:50 [#00061635]

Drukqs CONFOUNDS and SHOCKS me! And it also relaxes and
soothes me... a real roller coaster!

bumblefuk on 2001-12-17 03:51 [#00061636]

Vordhosbn is a really nice track thou, and 54 Cymru is cool
as fuck at the end. the music box sounding ones are cool
too. Gwerly mernans makes the bass kick, i've had a vague
song like that in my head for years, and the one after,
track 7, is short but one of the nicest tracks for me, the
nicest melody on the record maybe.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:53 [#00061638]

yeah Quoth is totally annoying... maybe RDJ was just mad or
something... :)

yeah, I personally think Drukqs is very good... some of it I
still haven't fully digested and totally gotten into yet,
but that will happen over time I think...

I'm listening to Girl/Boy Song now... what a beautiful
song... the drumming and the string parts totally compliment
each other perfectly... I remember I heard this song on the
radio here in town, on the MUN station, years ago, before I
had any idea who Aphex Twin was, and I liked this song
then...

bumblefuk on 2001-12-17 03:53 [#00061639]

Quoth is great pounding minimalism, like sex

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:54 [#00061640]

I love when the drums STOP, and the strings and all the
pretty sounds just envelop you.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:54 [#00061642]

one thing I like about Drukqs is that a lot of the songs
start off seemingly unorganized... then towards the end they
come into focus... Ziggomatic is a perfect example of
this... I love that song...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:55 [#00061643]

yeah Ophecks... sounds just like you're floating away...
amazing stuff...

JOB from St.JohnNewfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 03:58 [#00061646]

it doesnt matter what the intentions of rdj were when making
his songs. Its how YOU take them in.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-12-17 03:58 [#00061647]

I take them in like they're gifts from God, each and every
one of them!

JOB from St.JohnNewfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-17 04:03 [#00061653]
