Where my Ae journey began...excellent album and one of the
only albums from that era that I still listen to on a
regular basis.

dammit i hate school internet filters...
but i finally got in this thread.

why it filtered it, you got me...

incunabula is classic style, which i come back to every
time. not quite as good as amber is, but still worthy of
supreme recognition. methinks maetl is an underrated
track, and autriche and 444 are the bomb.

It's my least favourite (right now anyways), but that could
be different tomorrow.

the best opening ( kalpol introl + bike ) of the universe.
great for those who want to start journey with IDM.

a neat album but i heard it too late. it's quite pale if
you've listened to confield before it.

I am seeing that this album has a sad mood

Incunabula is their greatest release. I love all the tracks,
with the exception of Lowride, which i just like. Autechre's
career seems to have gone in reverse, they started genius
and ended up making technically proficient yet cold hearted
computer trickery, the IDM equivalent of Joe Satriani.
Incunabula has a warm heart, it is a sad, melancholy, human
album. I think bits of it peek through in the later work,
and that's the only thing that keeps me listening to them.
But ideally, i'd like it if they made another Incunabula or
an Amber. I never really want to hear another Gantz Graf.

You have that backwards. Incunabula is more
computery/in-human compared to the later stuff.

How interesting you should say so. The later albums to me
sound like vast, nameless things, machines from a billion
years ago going fucky. Incunabula sounds, to me, more human
in scale, maybe.

I dont agree... anyway I love all of them... from incunabula
to draft.... of course it goes more complex with every
release... but incunabula is not warmer than chiastic slide
or ep7 for example... which are the most emotive in my
opinion

incunabula is sad... so it shows emotions of course... but
in chiastic I can even feel passion

anyway for me confield is their true masterpiece

this said, of course I admitt I love incunabula and amber
and of course garbage ep

offline Exaph from United Kingdom on 2004-05-06 16:13 [#01176179]

no the machines definately took over as autechre developed.
confield is so much less emotional than this release to me
its friggin obvious.

ok but at least its logical - in the begininng u hav less
software/hardware etc so u become more create, then as time
goes by the software becomes more sophisticated and seems to
take over a bit more. read the article with them in aprils
sound on sound mag they keep going on about max/msp all the
time. and it shows u screenshots etc.

I agree with dog_belch on everything except that Amber
sucks, and Lowride is one of the best songs on the CD. Late
Autechre is meaningless to me.

I can't believe you disagree with me, why if you had a
avatar I'd crudely manipulate it in MSPaint so it looked
like you were sucking off a dog, then i'd rattle of two or
three topics saying what a tit you were, you impudent cur!

Anyway, I used to like Amber but listening to it today i
realised i only really like one track, the one with
the long outro that's better than the rest of the track, oh
you know the one.

*bump*

Listening to this now. I'd have to say that even their first
album, that many people don't like, grows on you in such a
way that you cannot even begin to describe it.

It is some of the most emotional, melancholy, relfective and
passionate music that I've ever heard. To me, it's
timeless.

Incunabula has stayed with me through my musical journeys
over the years, and its an album that I can always come back
to, that's always familiar enough but still unpredictable.
I'm still hearing things in it now afteer the 100th+
listen.

Brilliant, brilliant album :)

That's my two cents worth.

well put Toejam. Bought this album yesterday funnily enough.
Think this may be my favourite album of all time. So moving,
the production is fabulous. Listen to it LOUD! Especiall
Bike, Doctrine, Windwind and 444.

The structure of the longer tracks (above) is beautiful the
way everything builds up and little noises come in, adding
to the plot. Lush. A great place to start for any newcomers
to Ae.

NOTE: Never judge a book by its cover.

the only ae albums i cannot get into is incunabula
and amber, there are many reasons, but most importantly the
tracks just dont appeal to me, nothing sounds like
autechre
, if that makes any sense. most ae tracks have
a sound to them that i like, these two albums do not have
that, and thus do not sound like ae.

from incunabula listent ot the first two tracks... best
opener moment in music history

for amber I would recomend tracks 6 and seven

I just woke up today, and Incunabula was sitting in my CD
player. I have NO recollection of how it got there,....nor
do I recall having any desire to put it on. But this surely
means SOMEthing,......so I will put it on full blast once I
eat my breakfast and shower.

MAETL HERE I COME!!!!!!!1

I love tracks 1-3. The rest are good, but these stand out as
being really special imo.

I still don't see why it'd be impossible for them to combine
their new production style with the meldic warmth of an
older release like this. Well, it's up to them I guess-but
that would sound brilliant I imagine.

dense, deep and moving. I simply can't belive they made it
at such an early stage...
