read a very positive review of come to daddy in an
icelandic music paper 'undirtónar'. i had also enjoyed
'digeridoo' on a compilation called 'this is techno'. My
girlfriend (at the time) liked and owned 'I Care Because You
Do' which i had never heard. I told my girlfriend i really
wanted to hear his new release, come to daddy. so she bought
it for me for my birthday (dec 1997), and it's been my most
played-out cd since.

i bought RDJ album because i had heard a lot about aphex
twin, and decided to pick it up since i was at the store to
pick up new deftones anyways. i listened to the album all
day afterward.

I saw a video of windowlicker on MTV
and I looved it from begining. I bought
Druqks, Richard D. James Album, Come to Daddy and other
Aphex Cds. I`m thinking about buying something from Ae.
What do you think ?

i would think no. i'm not a fan of theirs. they have some
good songs, but nothing AMAZING that has grabbed me like
squarepusher, aphex, boc and plaid. that's my opinion.

nothing amazing? you need to go back and do your homework.

vose in, uviol, vietrmx21, bronchusevenmx24, overand,
silverside, crystel and others. i think they are all great.
but it doesn't compare to stuff on of such brilliant albums
like RDJ album, HND and MHTRTC. my opinion! :)

depends on which I consider my firs idm album (see my post
in the other thread)

but considering drukqs my real first introduction into idm

I bought it cos I was searching amazon reviews and I saw
that drukqs had been chosen as the electronic album of the
year 2001, so I bought it the next day I saw it at the store

Kid A got me into it. I read a review for that album where
they mentioned Windowlicker, by, you know, that guy. So I
downloaded it on the old Napster and was sufficiently blown
away to dive into the genre.

Not much. I still think they're great, and probably the very
best mainstream act going right now, but they're just not my
thing anymore.

was already a fan of Hi-NRG in the mid 80s. listening to
peel every night widened what i was exposed to - more
minimal less commercial electro/house. music seemed to
progess a lot around 88/89 when hardware became affordable
and people started to be able to make their own music in
their bedrooms.

i started getting into electronica right after kid a was
released.

first track i downloaded was "nine" by ae.

and about radiohead, i think if theyll ever want/need to
make some weird avantgardish uncommercial great music,
theyll do it.

seriously, i had not heared much music before getting into
idm

i used to be into punkrock when i was 14.. before that i
didnt really buy cds/listen a lot. I used to record crazy
stuff (still do) like screams and pitch bended music.. so a
friend said 'yeh shoud listen to aphex twin, he makes weird
music as well'

so he played logan rock witch for me.. when i got home i
downloaded some random tracks and did a web search

i found aphextwin.nu

and thats how it started.

Friends I suppose. Though listening to radio in Detroit the
highlights of techno mixes always seemed to be early Aphex
Twin stuff or early Plus8 material.

i read a review on drukqs in a (free) magazine (i forgot the
name). I was familiar with the name 'aphex twin', but i
didn't know any of his songs. So I downloaded the album, got
hooked, bought the album.

Same here, Kid A got me into the whole IDM thingy.
Actually, around 2000 I had an incredible explosion of my
audio experience in music. I must have bought over 200 CD's
that year only.

365/200=1.825 CD per day without repetitions! Damn, you must
have had lot of time to listen them all!
btw: Kid A is one of my fav releases.

in my case, i knew commercial trance, it bored me, i
listened to less commercial trance, it bored me, i started
to listen to fatboy slim, the prodigy, leftfield,
underworld, fatboy slim and the prodigy bored me, i read on
the internet reviews about albums, and i found a review
mentioning aphex twin calling him "the mozart of electronic
music" so i was curious and checked him out... same with the
rest i know

my friend brought me over to his computer one day and was
like "mike you need to check this music out" he put on
'milkman' and I thought it was funny and was intrigued. Then
he put on flim, and my jaw dropped.

selected "Aphex Twin"

Yeah well I bought 200 CD's at least that year. It was
really a big explosion of "What really is music" compared to
before. I was kinda stuck on my father's music, which was
either the Beatles or Pink Floyd.

I discovered everything, from Johnny Cash to The Velvet
Underground and John Coltrane and Miles Davis and Autechre
and Bob Dylan. Gosh I bought like just 40 Dylan albums that
year only! ;-D
