the question you need to ask yourself is: "do I WANT to
become a regular?"

i used to be a regular on here when I had access to a decent
connection, but I've been on a fucking dialup for about a
year now

i am so glad to be back :)

and you have over 1000 points.... doesn't that already make
you a regular, kind of?

i don't get it... i'm on dial up, and i'm here constantly.

yeah but here in the UK, we not only have to pay for the
call charge, but it costs a bomb

i didn't have a subscription to a service because they're
all bullshit over here (dialups are anyways)
they levy stupid fucking restrictions on how many hours a
month you can use and stuff like that

....and you only have 1198 points!??!

I think maybe there should be some more 'status' names, to
differentiate between regulars, and veterans! ;)

heh

cool

how do you go about setting up the free 55mb webspace?

i wanna stick my tracks up on there (when i've *tried* to
master them first)

offline Jedi Chris on 2004-02-12 05:51 [#01069464]

You need some FTP software, anything will do....I personally
use WSFTP but there are allsorts available. When you have
installed it, you'll need to enter in the information
provided by your ISP. If it is NTL like me, go to their
webpages and browse the support stuff, and you'll find what
you need.

I want NTL but they are not in my area yet, I'm stuck with
BTopenworld for now. But at least it's still broadband.

offline Jedi Chris on 2004-02-12 05:56 [#01069475]
Points: 11496 Status: Lurker

With me, right at the beginning I wasn't pleased with how
they ran the cable....it looked very unsightly on my
house...so I had the fuckers come back and tear it down, and
rerun it. Apart from the hassle involved in that, which took
7 weeks to sort...I've had no problems at all! *touch
wood*

:)

Thats what I call 'fake broadband', cos you've still got to
'dial-up' havent' you? And am I right that you are limited
to the speed you can have? For example, you cannot have
1Mbit, yeah?

offline tragedy from Gloucester (United States) on 2004-02-12 05:58 [#01069478]

*touch wood* hahahahha, not even funny because it's sort of
sexual, but i can just imagine you reaching over to touch a
table that's made of wood or something.

the only problem i've had with ntl is that it's changed my
hostname in Mac OS X and it's really fucking me off :(

i had it set to ziggomatic.local, and now it's some fucked
up really long hostname :(

and the tech support don't know shit about Macs, they're all
Micr$haft WindBlows :(

Bt "broadband" is not broadband, it's actuall ADSL

that's why there's still a 'dialup'

as far as i know, anyways

Yeh, you still have to dial up but you only pay a monthly
bill, you can use your phone at the same time and you CAN go
up to 1MB per second (i think they have just introduced it)
so it is still broadband, we only have 512 for now.

But the dialing up is a bitch because we have 4 pc's at home
and we cant use a router to share the connection. At the
moment we are relying on one pc being on 24/7 to share it.

BT is not broadband, it's ADSL

Good. I find with companies, that if you owe them money they
are immediately in your face to get it, but its a different
story when they owe you the money...sometimes its like
getting blood out of a stone.

ADSL it is, but I thought if it uses the other frequency and
goes fast then it is broadband right? no?

bread is cool.....i like squashing it with my fingers so it
goes flat, and then it's kinda like a tortilla

:)

nope, ADSL is different in the aspect that broadband
connects to a central hub for your area

ADSL connects STRAIGHT to your service provider, which means
you don't have to share your connection with anyone else
