"If we lived in a world that contained only the color red,
not only would we not understand "blue," but we wouldn't
really understand "red.""

- some anthropologist

thats actually really cool. kinda relates to my idea that we
may all see colors completely differently, but noone knows
because we have the same names for the colors. or something
like that, its hard to explain

You ever wonder if atoms are really, like, tiny universes?

ever wonder if the light stays on when you shut the fridge
door? how can we ever really know for sure?

In Australia the light goes out when you open the door. And
lobsters scream if you don't cook them.

It is strange to think beauty and all emotions are human
illusions.

They are the consequences of neurochemistry which is hardly
an illusion.

there's a little tab on the fridge, which the top of the
door runs into at an angle and keeps up, and the light stays
off. you'll see it, flip it off yourself.

He's just saying the don't have an objective reality outside
of our own brain; unlike how they are usually thought about.

That's a good, simple argument. It's making me think because
I had nearly concluded awhile back that beauty basically
does not exist and therefore art is a pointless waste of
time. I am me and have the genotype and phenotype to
experience emotions. They therefore exist in a sense. Maybe
illusion isn't the right word and maybe it is.

closing the door and standing there pressing a little piece
of plastic are not the same thing ;)

I think kermit the frog lives in my fridge. I try to sneak
up, open the door really suddenly but he always manages to
hide just quick enough... somewhere. But I know he's there.
And one day when I open it, he will leap out and stab me
with a banana.

Yes, but then my death would prevent me from being able to
tell anyone else of his wicked existence. He'd start hiding
in someone else's fridge, maybe yours..., and the
process would start all over.

the qoute is referring to our language. language = barriers
+ freedom, which means that while language is the only thing
that gives you the freedom to express yourself, you cannot
think, describe or do something which isn't in your
language. For instance, certain rain-forest-tribes in
south-america don't have the concept of several days. they
experience the same day over and over, and if you run, the
sun sets faster. If everything was red, red wouldn't need to
be in our language, nor would any of the other colours.
