Jimmy Edgar.....

I am listening to his Access Rhythm for two weeks... and
still can't figure out why is everybody happy with it?
Absorb said that it is "hottest thing", so what's hot in
it?
Most reviews from his official page are extrimly positive...
Whats up? there are no new beats in it... nothing new in
melody...
I love Scott Herren coz he has great melody, great beats,
great samples... great everything. Can't say anything
positive about Jimmy...

strange that. i'd expect his official page to say something
more like 'yeah well its alright but it could be better'

Re City Alley Is Superb, not too happy with the downtempo
tracks.

He recorded the tracks when he was 18, I think he is an
artist to watch. His sound will develop.

Actually pretty much everything I've heard from the
community has been something along the lines of "meh."
I think its nice enough, I would never buy it though.

"Jimmy is one of the most talented artists to have emerged
from the new worldwide wave of electronic producers"

I wouldnt go as far as saying that, good for a first
release, nothing groundbreaking though. 'Re City alley
'works well in my sets, i have a lot of people asking about
it.

I agree. Re City Alley is the best track from his EP.

But it is still not the hottest thing of 2004...

kristuit salu vs. morris nightingale - my mines was fucking
good album. hope he continues making such music at warp,
too.

I agree

it's good for parties .. but I can't believe this little
shit is on warp. this is aphex, autechre, squarepusher,
scott herren, et al. it's cool music, but it's a little
base/undeveloped and therefore not really worthy of a
multialbum warp contract. y'kno?

Nothing special IMO.

The minute i shit my pants with delight then we might have a
winner.

I know!!!!!
That's what i fell about Jimmy....
No matter if he is 19 or 20... some tracks from Richard's
Selected Ambient Works vol1 were made when he was 16 -17...
And they are 6 times better then Access Rhythm :-)

i would describe the sound as "trend hop" but the vinyl
packaging is delightful

you can divide music in two categories:

made by aphex twin and
not made by aphex twin

i think to compare this youngstar with the inventor of
modern sound is silly. i would give "my mines" on merck a
change (as i said). it's pretty awesome

i am comparing the age :-)

the packaging is great. the designers republic. as for the
content. no, its not autechre. no its not richard. you
seriously cant expect every release to be of that magnitude
from warp? i think its great they are willing to take
chances with what they consider up and comers. i think its
good that hes getting that oppurtunity, even if his first
release doenst match up to anything rdj did when he was 17.
so irrelevant...

on a serious note, i think its nothing new. its hyped, and i
hate it becuz it sounds like commercial produced crap

The EP on Warp is shit, without question. Jimmy is a total
investment, his programming skills are without a doubt some
of the best I?ve heard, and I imagine in a year, or two
he?ll be on top of the production game.

If you haven?t heard his audio.nl release, I suggest you do
? It might put things in perspective.

As for Warp now, they really don?t matter. They?ll never
release anything that will amount to Fuse, Mike Ink, AFX,
LFO, Black Dog, but what?s it matter? There is a plethora of
new labels who have taken the dominance Warp once had, and,
hell, I would even call labels like Kompakt, Ghostly
International, Schematic, etc. a hell of a lot more
consistent then what Warp was.

I guess i am disappointed in how (imo) warp kinda took a
turn for the worse. Not like it used to be. To me, i dont
want to see that happen to any good label :/

The hype machine strikes again, in earnest. Decent album,
but... that's it. But he's just a young 'un yet.

I dig it. None of the tracks are as good as that mp3 on his
site "Check Out My Gold Tooth" though.

Man, you people are gonna bitch when his full-length comes
out.
