It works as bootable CD. It includes some multimedia
programs, and one modular synth. But make sure you don't
have newest hardware on your PC.

you can use csound and silence but you'll need to learn
python (programming language) and be ready for a massive
learning curve.

but, you'll be the most original artists around. in about 10
years .

There are various packages - the most immediately gratifying
is http://www.soundtracker.org/

Nuts, I was gonna mention SoundTracker.
It's all you need and you can load in WAVe files, so it's
all cool!

sorry to sidetrack the thread but... is there a descent FTP
app for linux? cause kBear is pretty lacking. windows has
so many kickass FREE ftp programs, seems like somebody would
port one to linux.

Did you get that DX-10? it's fun because it's pretty direct
but I'll share some FM7 banks with you on soulseek if you
want..

Cool...I couldn't get the DX-10 because the link was down on
the site. My stupid laptop has been back for repair again
though. I got it back today and it is worse than when it
went back so I am going to get my money back and get a
different one so it will probably be in a a couple of weeks
or something. Cheers for the offer, I will take you up on
it when I get the chance though :P

I'm not big on KDE apps - the desktop is fine but the
utilities and apps are halfassed. Try GFTP -

I've used Csound (a bit) under windows and I didn't need any
python knowledge... I've been doing some Python programming
under linux recently so I might look into this Silence
thing.

Bogola: Sweet! Ta for the heads up re: supercollider. Now I
can finally get rid of my aging powerbook (only kept for
supercollider).

Ecnadniarb: If you do get the DX-10, feel free to use it in
the DnB track. I've got FM7 so I'll at least be able to hear
an approximation of the sound if you mail the patches over.

they way i read, im not sure that csound runs under linux.
silence does however, but you program it through python
scripts.

ive started getting right into python in the last 4 months
or so. in the process of writting a chat server. its a
fucking cool language.

Isn't Python great? It has such a rich library it's almost
like a scriptable OS in itself. And it's so productive -
most things work on the first try except for typos.

Apek - last distro I tried was Gentoo - very nice indeed,
very fast and efficient.

I like command-line FTP clients, like LFTP, or NCFTP, they
are so simple and powerful...
