Music makers: best skill?

To those of you making music...

What do you think your best skill is? The thing you're most
proud of in your own music.

This could be something you think is on par with signed
artists and people you respect, or something that you're
really excited about when you do something and stick it in
the piece and comes out better than you expected.

Or something in between

Would like some serious responses, I'm really curious,
almost every artist I have heard on hear has at least one
really cool thing they do

Feel free to tack on a link to a piece that you've done it
in and we'll check it out!

I don't have anything. Maybe that I feel most of my music
has a certain emotional quality to it.

Melody I suppose. I am quite happy with those.

Being able to cut, combine and change breaks so much as to
be unrecognisable (from the originals) and yet still retain
that "live drummer" feel. For some reason, I'm better at
doing it for trip hop rather than say, drum and bass.

My other one (if we're allowed two) is synth patches. I'm
really happy with a lot of the ones I do (in a number of
synth programs), especially compared to the quality of a lot
of "amateur made" ones I DL for those programs.)

probably my ability to create rhythms (on guitar I mean, I
suck with drums).. also my finger/hand size/strength comes
in very useful. I also have no problem creating melodies. I
can write a part, and then write a harmonized melody for it
easily enough.

making awkward beats that still carry the ass shakin funk,
then
placing my dirty beats into an ambient space.

thats what i think i excel at anyway. maybe i'm just
fooling myself.

I love it when I compose a really lush tune, but for instant
satisfaction nothing beats a good beat melange. Either mad
cut up breaks or crunchy techno. Yum!

I think I'm getting a handle on making my own patches and
sounds, I can do a respectable mix and arrangement, and I
can do good melodies.

What I have to work on is building up some excitement in my
tunes - I bore myself to death sometimes.

I was hoping for a few example tracks of some skills, but
great responses

One reason for this thread was to try and find someone you
might be compatible with, an opposite skill or something you
want to work on... get some collaboration going!

I think my strengths lie in overall production and mastering
and melodic and chordal progressions... I know people will
agree with the mastering, but the chordal stuff has been put
aside and will come out full force in my newer releases
which have yet to be put up on my site

I'd love to work with people who aare better with beats than
I either new or cut up (a lot of you), good bass line
builders that push energy for a dancable sound, and anyone
with a good ambient progression, I'm not very good at making
long ambient linse that continue to evolve slowly. I'm not
patient at all

I'm going to start more of these threads for reasons that
will be revealed soon enough... you guys are providing me
with a lot of good info for a new project I'm working on
you'll all enjoy

i actually have a release coming up on r40f's label that is
a collaboration between me and him - it is called ALTROCK.

for more information and some samples, go HERE.

If you want to hear some excellent examples of musical
unions, check out XLTRONIC Vibes Volume 10, if you haven't
already. great stuff, and it is where altrock was born.

i like to make sure most of my melodies or percussion do not
come out of no where.

if you want to see what im talking about go to lacedmilk.com
, mp3, atft, and the songs that would show what i mean are
probably squareoctagenerial or shadow the dog.

weird complex "fractal beats". Noragamyognif McTimfulaptor
at zebox.com/norfzorf is my best available example. They can
sound interesting but are limited to a certain kind of
non-stop sort of structure and don't compare with some
deliberately engineered beats like "ill shit" by telefon tel
aviv for example.

my sounds of space and of apocalypse (my self proclaimed

months old but if you haven't heard than please hear em.

and i love to collaborate if anybody's interested.

Anybody best at Remixing? Laying new stuff over already
existing stuff?

Classical composition? Jazz? Noise? House/dance? Feel a
certain genre is an extension of your brainial area?

Soundscapes? Ambient?

Listening to stuff, if anyone is interesting in collabing on
some stuff, email me at chect@hotmail.com, I'm back to
making music furiously right now

I wouldn't really call it remixing, but I can easily add
extra melodies to songs.. a lot of the time to practice
(both guitar and keyboard) I put on a song and then start
jamming out solos to it. Also, I find ambient music the most
easy to create.. for some reason ambient is one of the only
styles I can do when fucked up.. it's just so... easy =D

I'm looking to do some collab work for some dance music.

I'm working on making some house/breaks with a huge IDM
influence to start spinning at the parties I'm going to on a
regular basis now, make it in the style people around here
like, but with a huge flare of my own.

Anybody interested?

Ambient scapes, cut up beats, and especially
progression/transisitions in any area

I've been listening to a lot of stuff, good highlights of
the skills you guys are mentioning, more on that later when
I have some more free time
