laying out beats in cubase?

I recently got Cubase SL, and I havent got a clue where to
start... I finished some of the tutorials on mixing and
recording, but I have nothing to play MIDI with (synth,
controller, etc) so in the meantime, I just want to find out
how to lay out a beat, like you would in fruity loops... is
there a beat or sound sequencer anywhere in this program?

Overall where should I start here? I've been using
Fruityloops for 2 years, mainly with .wav samples and such,
so I have no prior expierence with MIDI or hardware
instruments/effects, which seem to be the backbone of
Cubase.

Computermusic has lots of great tutorials for cubase and
such. Check the "groove" tutorial for what you are looking
for, I think..

Go to devices > vst instruments and add a drum machine
(there's lm7, which comes with cubase or you can get some
vst) then add a new midi track, assign the output of this
track to the vst you just added and use the pencil tool to
draw out a pattern within this track. If you double click
this you can start sequencing beats like a triangle with
bent legs.

get Phatmatik Pro VSTi for the sampled breaks

V-Station is an excellent synth.

I also use CM-505 drum synthesiser, which is free.
