Why do people listen to "IDM"?

offline pf from Finland on 2004-02-06 16:03 [#01062609]

My question is that why some people need music like "IDM".
The people i know think that the music i listen to is noise
and dosent make sense. So why do we need this complex
electronic music when some people are completely satisfied
with Britney and Black Eyed Peas? So why do we like this
noise?

its quite hard to anwser to these questions.

But lets ask, Why do you listen to "IDM"?

But seriously, it's because of our superior intelligence or
something. We know what good music is, not like those
mindless sheep.

on my home planet, autechre sounds to us how c+c music
factory sounds to you.

now let's shake our booty on the dancefloor.

*turns on very end of the last track on confield*

im a sound freak, I LOVE what synths can do, and I get tired
of hearing the same distorted guitars and drum sounds very
easily, and I'm not too into vocals/lyrics for the most part
either. Obviously, there are some great vocal tracks out
there, but for most people vocals/lyrics become the focus of
the song and I don't like that. I like to let the music to
do the talking. Also "IDM" is trippy as fuck and I like to
zone out when listening to music. It's kinda hard to zone
out to Korn.

me.

again, a good point. In my opinion is that people who want
something much more out of music than just a pretty ass
singing to some non sence lyrics and want complex melodic
and rythmical constructions listen to what we listen.

For example i played some Chris Clark to a friend and he
said that is there something wrong with the cd?

And the time that i've listened to idm, its has expanded the
range of music i listen to. I even listen to some classical
music these days.

I listen to IDM because I desperately feel the need to
escape from reality and into a world of pure abstract sound
architecture.

Even with all the money I spend on albums and sound gear,
it's still cheaper than drugs, and autechre can't be
detected in urine tests. Yet.

'Cause most other music doesn't hit the mark. Most
emotional, most funkiest, most wild, most amount of options,
most variation. Do I need to go on?

But personally i think that Satanstornade is bad weird, but
that is just my opinion.

I've listened to some, but i cant find any musical element
in noise. I understand minimal techno with small blip and
blops be cause there can be melody and rythm. But noise is
something that i cant get a grab of, but i dont know if i
really want to.
