Demo tapes

What do you think about sending demo tape, cd or md to a
record company. This is serious because i think that i could
try this method but most of record companies reciev dozens
of amateur music material. I think that even if I have some
chances to release it my demo can be lost in hundreds of
thousands of other people demos. Write down what you want.

you can call and ask them if they've listened

put it on a CD, thats the best idea unless on their homepage
they specify they want something else like minidisc.

then send only like 4 songs or so, or even 3, just a
"teaser", your songs that best show your musical range and
abilities, put your name, contact information, band/artist
name and even a small pic or something, and send it in!..
and send lots to different people.

I dunno weve sent out demos and had a good response to them,
our band is having 2 songs put on a official compilation
record this spring, so keep trying, we even get a full
record deal possibly this summer.

send a packet of crisps in with your demo. stuff them till
they dont know whats' what...it doesnt matter how crap you
are, they will sign you. the space raiders did it and
it worked for them.

Yes, I remember reading about that. Really set the precedent
for people going overboard on aesthetic presentation of
demos rather than the quality of the tracks...

do something spectacular! i've had an idea about using a
rubber-band to fire my demo across the street from my
brothers apartement into Tellé records! THAT would make
them listen!

warp closed their demo submitions for the time being anyway

i reckon with demos, put on a wide variety of stuff, your
best stuff. Put on only 3-4 tracks, and put on tracks that
sound like you and not like anyone else.

And dont go overboard with the text, dont bullshit, jsut
write whats needed, maybe put a picture or something.

:)

No. I already tried in Warp :p. Well, i still have chances
in my native Vivo (polish record company, part of BMG). Guy
from there told me that i just have to work on some nev
stuff and they will release that if it`s good alright ;)

send it to small labels.....

I don't believe any 'new' demo artists have been released on
Rephlex for years if hardly at all. BOC sent a demo and they
ignored them, so my view is don't bother.

yeah, labels like rephlex and so on tend to be a bit cliquey
these days...they seem to only want to put out records by
their friends or people who already have released dtuff on
other labels....my advice to people who send away their
tracks is that if you really believe in them and feel as
though they would sell...start your own label and do it that
way..

People putting out stuff by themselves I think is no worse
than putting it on an existing label. I believe if people
have faith in their music thats all that counts. I still
think there has to be a method to the madness that said.
