what i like about it is the sound and maybe the volume turning has interesting rhytm effects, i wont say i thought it was to disguise the weak melody, that'd be a bit smartypants

It's not the singing; it's the fact that the lyrics have to reflect their current mood. For most people music is all about the lyrics and messages no matter if the music sucks. You know when your bitch dumps you etc etc

Xammax---> Ok sure big--->I believe that after cichlisuite autechre's music stopped being about distinct melodies. It is more abstract, layers of sound constructing soundscapes. I find this approach more complex, more clinical and cold and all the way more interesting.

It's not my favorite Autechre melody; but they still have it, examples of good harmony/melody like in iv vv iv vv viii, and the end of 6ie.cr. And of course reniform puls.

I don't see it as a hint. It is a part of the sound wall in the track. Now that I come to think I see it as an effect. Its volume gets higher as the song goes on and it comes in waves. I don't think that could be accomplished with more notes that are displayed seperate from each other. Sorry if it gets hard for you to understand what i'm trying to say, my english is hardly the best there is.

yes i quite see it like that only i there is a melody that i would have liked to be better, more original
with not hinting to melody i just meant loose all the melody then, so fewer notes i might have liked better then
it's just not a fun melody to whistle i guess im trying to say. i like whistling ae melodies

I must agree with Doomed Puppy completely. The actual notes in this case are relatively arbitrary and unimportant when compared to the sound contruction they're attempting to create. In these late Autechre releases, it's about the architecture more than the conventional musicality. That being said, I find the melody quite nice regardless. I can see how the simplicity and bubbling, inconsistent nature of it could get annoying though.

the notes are arbitrary?
so the entire melody has been made at random, then?

Not random necessarily. Perhaps it was poor word choice, although I think you know what I meant.
Essentially, I think the notes are less important than the timbre, placement, motive, relationship to other elements, etc.

you're sweet, you look like that kid from full house, awww anyhoo, with all the things you say in those two posts, up to 'that being said' im like: yes, but is that all you believe, arent it all excuses to make up for a weak melody (besides good points)?
im all for minimalism, great to write a simple melody, but most people that write music, and i think that includes autechre, can hear wether a melody is original (new, important..)

nope im not a preconfieldist. the earliest ae i have is tri repetae and in my opinion ae keeps getting better and better...but most of the tracks on confield are weak...pen expers and bine are strong, and c/fern and parhelic triangle are catchy but lacking in something...the rest are all weak. the last 2 are almost totally unlistenable to me they are so crap.

I *am* that kid from Full House :D glad you like the pic!
You and Drunken Mastah both bring up a good point.. maybe I actually do mean secondary. However, I seriously do mean 'arbitrary' in the sense that as an album, Confield strikes me as a piece of so-called 'sound architecture' or art rather than a collection of songs, much like alot of Ae's recent material. I seriously don't think the sound image would be dramatically different if the notes were ABC instead of EFG, or whatever. The melody seems to be there for its own sake as if to say 'I am a melody placed here because this is what the concept called for'. Like, if an artist wants to paint a blob in one corner of his painting but doesn't particularly care if it's an off-white or khaki blob.
This is very subjective.. and possibly hypocritical in one sense since I think that other parts of Confield are in fact studies in unconventional melodic structures like Cfern, Parhelic triangle, and uviol to name a few.
Anyway, just trying to explain my interpretation.
