No you are correct The Clash weren't punk. They had punk roots, but they were more influenced by reggae artists of the time. Punk for me is...Ramones, Subhumans, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, I Braineater, Forgotten Rebels, Dishrags, early D.O.A., Active Glands, Bunchofuckingoofs, Nash The Slash, Enigmas, Pointed Sticks, NoMeansNo, Brilliant Orange, Go Four 3, Stiffs, Fastbacks, Idol Threats, Buzzcocks, Chelsea, The Damned, Pariah, T.S.O.L.....If anybody likes punk, check out some of these bands. no i don't listen to the sex pistols....it was one of the bands that came off the top of my head. I was going to add to my post that that most punk sux. All the bands i listed I like with the exception of the sex pistols. If you'd all grown up on the west coast, instead of living in trailers in NFLD and NS, you might think differently. The real punks in the 80's actually had a cause for revolution....for example, if you knew what was going on in the 80's, you'd know what the The Clash were singing about. The limitations of guitars turn me off of punk. It bores me, I can't help it. And I know my musical history, trust me. I've done some reading/listening, and I can't get into it. How can I get into a genre where the emphasis is less on music, and more on being a badass/bucking the system? Fuck that. I love guitars, and the art of guitar playing, I do it myself, but I can't LISTEN to that simple stuff, it doesn't stimulate my brain in the least. |
